Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

GNT???

Anyone have any idea what's going to happen in GNT, specifically in the RF, System Performance, Equipment Engineering, Construction Engineering, Real Estate and Network Assurance groups? Dan says we must continue to have a good network but these teams are already stretched to the max.

@f3 those are time & material contractors. They can always pull in SOWS that don't have a time limit like HCL or Infosys. We will see this outsourced.

@ea our contractors could NOT be renewed after 30 months, even during non-layoff times. I don’t know if they’ve made this clear, but - not a troll - as POLICY they could not convert a single contractor. ALL could stay a maximum of 30 months, then gone. No offer, no extension.

@cx Since we are talking toxic management then we can add AD Dennis Robertson in Kentucky to the list that should go but probably won't.

GNT to be outsourced to contractors.

I fully expect a big chunk of GNT to be sold.

Dan said himself we need to get out of the legacy businesses. He even mentioned "divest". Most of GNT is legacy businesses.

Expect the unexpected.

Matrix pricing has gutted most local contractors. Sprint went down the managed network road with ericsson and they quickly found out even that wasn't enough to save the company from a decade of bad leadership decisions. VZ made the decision to not compete for just as long while TMO was racking up million sub quarters. Legere called us d-mb and d-mber, sounds like he had it pegged right. Maybe we should lure him and Neville Ray out of retirement.

@ap having worked with ericsson, they don't know their a-s from their elbow. We fix their sc--w ups all day everyday whenever we've had them touch anything in the network. A bunch of clowns.

Dan knows it’s the inefficiency that keeps the field busy. Average age of network assurance is 53. The OEMs will run it better

@ah how can you replace techs with contractors? Do other providers do this? If everything networked is outsourced then what is left? Managers?

@OP Well this is from the NY Post's story yesterday about AI Dan:

"Instead of focusing on network engineering, the company needs to become “obsessed with what customers want,” he said

That sounds like they're going to focus on Madison Avenue razzmatazz instead of the network.

RF, System Performance, Equipment Engineering, Construction Engineering, Real Estate and Network Assurance are all a part of this RIF.

The non union groups will be slowly outsourced to contractors, the union groups will be replaced after Aug 2026.

Source: Our team has been preparing for this for about a year. We have brought in many contractors throughout the country to learn various parts of the job over the last year.

A stay home order will be issued for those teams affected this round, at least 3 rounds until August are on the timeline.

Rumor is our 2026 build plan is getting cut by 20-30%. I say rumor because they keep delaying it week after week. We are completely in the dark.
