Serious question from non union employee. If my department miraculously survives this is it possible to join the union? What is the process? I assume this late in the game they would end our group if we tried.

@ab maybe that was mci? Vz bought worldcom/mci in 2006 not 2002…worldcom was rebranded as MCI in 2003. The Verizon purchase was 2006 and September that year info was sent to all ex mci members on how to join a union. Company tried to sabotage it but eventually over 600 employees joined the union and had multiple members of congress making statements. Not sure where you are getting people declined due to time not being bridged
It doesn’t seem hard. Read this

Everyone should be in a union, companies don’t care about you as an individual.
You can try, but overall process is basically sit down with the union, draft a contract, then everyone would be sent letters asking to join and would have to reply and whatnot. Need to have a certain percentage of yays compared to nays. Not sure of the percentage.
Dont do it. You’d be the first in the chopping block
LOL if you're in retail and your store is Union...I can almost guarantee your store is one of the 158 that will be closed down.
@ab I know CWA District 3 honors management tenure when going union. Had a first level with 25 years go union and they bridged his time. Got 5 weeks vacation right off the bat.
When VZ bought worldcom in 2002 all the employees were invited to join the union. And all the employees said no once they were told by the union they wouldn’t get credit for time in title and upon joining the union they would most likely lose their positions to other current union employees who had more seniority. If the union wanted more members they’d fix this key detail.
