Thread regarding Nielsen layoffs

They aren’t even trying to hide it. More layoffs on the way in US

I work in an analyst type role and just came out of a meeting with our VP. About 50 or so souls on the call. Someone brave enough to ask her if there were going to be anymore layoffs? Her response sent chat windows and text alerts into overdrive. She said "I wouldn't call them formal layoffs, but in about 6 weeks or so, all additional efficiencies that have been found will be taken".

I've been here about 10 years, and I've never worked in an environment such as this. The stress level is unbearable. You wonder every single day- is this the day? Are they looking at me? Did I say the wrong thing to the wrong person? Literally walk on egg shells. And my particular org has just been awful. My husband keeps telling me to quit as he can't stand to see me cry every day due to the unbearable stress of my boss and her lunatic boss. The VP doesn't even know what she's doing. She came from DSCI with her boss who just got another promotion. And things just keep getting worse. I've always been a high rated employee, but I just wonder how much longer I'll be here. And the same for my friends and colleagues and some of them have been here over 20 years. It's just such a shame. I know it's about making money, but it's also about the people, and ever since this new leader came in to the field organization whic is what we are under, no one cares about anyone. They say they do, but they really don't. Just how much can they squeeze the lemon and move on. I guess we will just hold on until the middle of March now and wait it out. At least we have an answer and a date. Tears again.

Call Centers are in chaos, we are told that we will have new leaders soon. Our old Leader was bad, no she was terrible but I wonder if we will soon be referring to her tenure as the good old days!

I am not sure Christine Pierce is the actual problem. But she is certainly saying yes to the decisions makers above her. Brookfield, Elliot, The board, David K, Kartik R, Mitch H and the consultants are the people who are bloodletting the company for their own gain. They are simply not operating in the interest of you or the company. They are not even meeting the standards set by the Code of Conduct.

To the poster OCR etc. I left on my own in November after 8 years Don’t be glad Christine is still there. I thought when she came in this was our chance to finally get someone with some brains in the seat She is afraid of her own shadow and can’t make tough decisions and has analysis paralysis. She listens to one or two people and they are the wrong people, the very people who have made the terrible mess she’s in now. I’m sad for all those left. But now with Christine in an even bigger role as the OP referenced and the two people she has left running field and training. I’m sad to say- Nielsen is done. Look for another place to work people. There is life outside of that place. It is inevitable. They will never recover under this leadership team. Leaving was the best choice I made. Don’t let them ruin your life by stressing you out.

Former Nielsen here. Had a decent 15+ year run. Made the company MILLIONS of dollars over the years in a client facing/sales position. But that didn't matter. Eventually most people's # will be called and you'll be asked "to leave." Happened to me. Not recently though. I left years ago. But I know the feeling. I was with the company during the 2006 private equity takeover and subsequent invasion of Dave Calhoun and the rest of his GE hacks. They decimated the company, only to leave a few years later with their millions after we went public again. Tons of layoffs back in those days, especially in the Oldsmar/Dunedin office at the time. They all had to train their Indian replacement in order to get severance. It even made the news, although you wouldn't be allowed to say anything about that topic in 2023. But it was demoralizing to watch. And, yes, most of us walked on egg shells for years after that wondering when and if it would happen to us. Though I don't make much money nowadays, I've never been as happy and stress free. I get by. You find ways. Your "career" isn't your life. Remember we're all just pawns in the corporate world - to make C level and large investors mega rich. PS. I also knew Christine. They did great work. Glad she's still around, I guess.

Stress levels are high, everyone is concerned about their jobs, Managers have no training on how to identify and deal with what is happening.

Your Manager will tell you, do your job-you have no control on how decisions are made. Yes we know that but you are fooling yourself if you think that this is a valid answer.

Nielsen is not the only company going through these massive layoffs, we need to be kind to each other and Managers. we understand that part of your jobs is uphold the Nielsen Values but please don’t loose sight of your employees that have helped you reach the position that you are at.

OP, I need you to stop worrying about being laid off and start thinking about the next phase in your life. You can freelance, start a business etc. ... You are valuable plus you will get really sick if you stress yourself out. ( Will you have health insurance to take care of that in the near future?

For those of you who got laid off in the US, what was your severance package like? I heard it was really good?

It’s all under Christine Pearce. Used to be called Field now it’s called Data Solutions. Not Gracenote. She’s a nice lady but can’t get anything done and everything just seems to be getting worse and now she just had another promotion. Our VP just yells at people, cuts you off and is completely clueless. Horrible working environment. Except we work remote so it’s tolerable. Used to be a great place to work. Loved my job. Now we are all just counting the days.

Yep I had a doctor trying to tell me to not take it personally to be released after almost two decades that it was just business.... But even though these types of things have happened before they were never like this - this is different, this is colder, this is meaner, and I loved my job and was good at it. I keep seeing that they're just looking at costs but I know I had colleagues in my position earning more than I there's no rhyme or reason none of that makes sense. I actually am starting to feel lucky that I was cut in the first wave even though we had no warning. Cry when you need to and don't take it personal because it's not.

Don't expend energy on a company that sees you as expendable. Workers are just another capital investment; only the product of the labor has any value.

You got this! Have a good cry, but DO NOT live in your tears! =)

Is this under the Audio or Gracenote umbrella?
