I don't think comments like Don't worry, if you get laid off here, you'll find something better are very realistic. I understand the need for people to want to support each other, however, considering the job market, I think it's more likely that in case I lose this job, I'd had to accept a much worse option (like many others)...

Everyone seems to overlook the "Inc 5000 - the 5000 Fastest-Growing Private Companies in America." Just search the web on "Inc 5000" and select the dropdowns for location and field you want. These companies need people with skills or they cannot grow.

So much this. If you’ve worked at other companies, you’ll know. So many people have left and dread the new places. Yes, it has its times here and our leadership is mostly a joke. However, you get layoffs about once per year maybe once every couple years. Trust me, it’s way worse at other companies. Especially the small and mid sized places. Manage your expectations and you’ll sleep better. Back in the day when I was trying to advance and playing the internal politics, I got nowhere. Then I just started keeping my head down and doing my job. Change teams if you need to. I changed teams and was promoted within a year. Find a good team where people enjoy each other and you have a good boss. It’s a world of difference.

I never look down on a person who works. I do not care if they are a fast food worker or a CEO. They fill a vital function. I really dislike how C-Levels and their managers have a tendency to look down on "the Proletariat". That person serving your $40 steak dinner is as important to the success of your business dealings as the words pouring out of your mouth.
Sometimes getting a new position with a lower salary but higher standard of respect is a decent tradeoff.
I use myself as exhibit A. When with T I was earning just under $100K per year, but hated every single second I was there, from the ludicrous T bureaucracy to the constantly changing work goals to the piles of lies told by executives to the reterded business decisions to the constant threat of layoff. T is a frigging toxic cesspool of lies, incompetence, and instability.
My new job required I accept a lower salary (in the low $80K range) but I am at a place where my work is appreciated, the executives don't lie to me all the time, I don't need to watch insulting videos where the CEO tries to cosplay a human, and (most importantly) there is not a history or threat of layoffs every single quarter. This stability and respect means way more to me than the $13K drop in wages.
There are better jobs out there. Start looking now rather than waiting until the axe falls.

The food service industry is still looking for chefs and servers of all walks! Might have to consider shifting gears for a while and do something different. You might find it to be more meaningful than the telecom industry!
I'm fairly certain my position would have been included in the surplus wave last week due to my title, but whoops - I was already off payroll and accepted a 50%+ raise at a smaller company. If you are unhappy and T is the best you can do don't complain be grateful you are collecting a premium wage.
Yeah, that may be true. Job market is different now than couple years ago. Massive quitting is a history now, companies are no longer hiring like crazy.
I understand the posters comment. It really is about where you live. In a lot of areas of the US it’s difficult to find a comparable job. I’m markets that are booming, it may not be as much of a struggle.
It sounds like someone is not feeling too confident about their skill sets in the market place.
Truth hurts, that's for sure. There is so much competition in the job market today, it ain't even funny. What do you have to offer that sets you apart from the herd?
