We read on here day in, day out people commenting how much they hate T and how they're just looking for a way out. Many have said over the years they would love to be laid off or to be given a chance to volunteer. Well, here we are. Many have been given that choice. Who wants to bet that very few people are going to say yes?

I finally got my wish!
They announced December 1st that we'd be off payoff Feb 2nd
Just long enough on payroll to get my 5 weeks of vacation paid out as well as my hefty severance since they couldn't put us anywhere
These last few paychecks and severance check can't come soon enough.
I wasn't leaving of my own accord either. They had to keep on paying me for years every two weeks like clockwork while I did the absolute bare minimum required to not get fired.
That layoff call was a fantastic early Christmas present for me anyways.
I win AT&T.
Now give me my free money you trash company.
By the way, for any of you Kool-Aid chokers who were unfortunate enough to keep your job through this round of store selloffs to 3rd parties, I'll leave you with two parting thoughts for you to immediately disbelieve, but I hope it finally disillusion you and lets you know how truly useless and invaluable you are to Corporate AT&T:
- ) Alliance Mobile, who just took over a large portion of these stores, told us these take over corporate store deals were at MINIMUM 2 years in the making.
- ) AT&T couldn't pawn you cr---y Alabama stores off on Alliance Mobile because of how horrible your metrics were. So you know what Alliance did? They said they'd take over those Alabama stores if they also got the number 1 AT&T corporate store in the country over in Louisiana.
That's right. The number 1 top grossing Corporate store was offered up on a silver platter as a cherry on top of a sh-t sundae to get a 3rd party to buy out other Corporate stores that neither Prime Communication or Alliance Mobile wanted in Alabama.
Knowledge truly is power, and when I found that out from two of their Directors, (Kevin Landers and Dylan Morgan) I just knew I had to tell you fine fine Kool Aid drinking employees in hopes you finally listen to me
But I know you'd sooner choke to death on it than accept your fate so..oh well!
I'll be counting my free money from at&t for letting me go. I never once paid union dues because the CWA is as crooked as AT&T, but thanks for negotiating me some free money!
I'm not going to leave, because I want severance. My day will come. I think everyone that doesn't leave on their own, eventually will. The problem is that although it is taxing, the money is good. I put a lot away every month. I don't want to stop having that, because it gets me closer to my retirement goal.
My work group is not going through layoffs this round and is not being asked if we want to volunteer.

Before you go home change back to your clean office clothes in the port a potty and drink beer with the other workers. Clean your hands with a brush and take a shower when you get home. The wife will never know about your construction job but your hands will get calloused from shoveling. If your credit and police report comes back clean you’ll get the new job in 3-4 months or less. It’s the same way at other companies as well, so leaving T and going to another telecom would be no different.
I'm sooooooo ready to leave this place and would give anything for a severance package. If I don't receive one, I'm done in April May time frame! Had enough of the toxic environment! It's taking a toll on my mental stability!
I'm on the fence. On the one hand, I don't want to get laid off because I'll need to find another job. On the other hand, I'll get severance and I really won't be upset.

You can always get a temporary construction job while your waiting on a clearance or back ground check on a permanent position. Wear clean office cloths when you leave the house then change to your construction clothes in the port a potty. If you have to use the road sign cover your face in case the wife drives through your zone.
I do want the severance but I am not going to voluntarily retire to get it.
If I was in a position to really “retire” this year, I would volunteer. But I am early 50’s and need to work a while longer. So I’m going to try and stay on.
If I get selected so be it.
And if we could stop using the “offer” word. There is no offer on the companies part. They are simply asking for volunteers to get laid off to get the same severance you’d get if you don’t volunteer and get laid off. That’s not an “offer”.
If they really want volunteers in large numbers they’d just have to sweeten that severance a bit and they’d get more volunteers. But they’re not going to do that.
With the severance package of 6 months for 13 and over, this is the best time to get the offer. They can get 6 months of salary then get a job within a month or two after being surplussed.
Even with all the layoffs happening, I read it takes about 2 months to find a new job from recent reports from the unemployment office.
They give me an offer and I’m out. Otherwise I stay two years to get my pension.
Don't really want out. Just saying it to hurt AT&T.
Those bi-----g and complaining and saying they want to leave are mostly union workers. They are waiting for their 5-5-5 offer :). Their surplus date ( if they have one ) is 3/15.
Also, there is likely not more than 1k active people on this site ( just look at views) and the same 100 or so post the same stuff. All this to say there are not as many as you think doing the talking.

No choice given on my team as we were not in a potentially impacted team. Others in our org were impacted. I know lots of old timers are waiting on some mythical package or offer that most of us know will never happen. I think they just don’t have anything better to do so they stick around, complain and say no to everything that comes their way (projects, process changes, whatever). Not all are like that, but most are. Human nature to resist change as we get older. So back to the voluntary, can’t say I hate it here, it’s a job, all jobs and companies have issues. If I were in a position to take a voluntary and had something lined up right now, I would take it to cash out. If I was retirement eligible I definitely would take it. Though my generation is wired differently, Gen X isn’t sticking around longer than needed. We’ve been passed over for everything as the boomers still cling to everything and then when something does open they hand it to the millennials who are younger. So we passed our sweet spot of young enough to take over. I just need a few more years and I’m out. Will be nice to retire at 55. No need to leave with that little bit remaining.

The fact that interest rates have significantly changes the value of the pension have changed the appeal of retiring now. if I had my 75 points last year , I would have retired, I am eligible this year, so I will probably get laid off so I cannot collect my lump sum. Everyone's situation is different, the planets have to perfectly align for it to be the right time for many .
The beatings must continue or Slave....Jump on that grenade.
Moral of story is: those that work must be fired & those that lead (sic) aka bad decision makers must continue to "lead".
