I absolutely cannot focus on work. I don't think there is anything positive in letting people know that they might be losing their jobs and leave them in limbo for a few weeks. Some may say that this means more time to prepare, but for me uncertainty is more stressful than layoffs.

Realistically, you should know whether you are being targeted for surplus, it isn’t hard to tell.
I know I am, being passed up for progressions on the team, manager torpedoed an internal job opportunity, even when backfill was allowed. I’d be happy if the company pays me to leave, sick of all the bs and management political mind games. Bring it on!
OP is over-thinking this.
Just assume you are on the list because at some point you will be. Brush up your resume and begin searching for your next position now, before you find yourself depending on unemployment to cover the bills when T inevitably shows you the door.
Remember, you work at T. Your layoff isn't a question of if, but when.

I have been through numerous surplus events at T. T always gives sufficient notice that a particular work group is reorganizing. I know employees complain about the amount of time from this notice to the actual time when details of who is affected come out.
Truly, it is a lose/lose situation. If T came out and met with all people who would be surplussed without a hint of anything in the pipeline, people would be furious.
Think about people who roll up to their employer to find a notice on the door stating the business has closed. I remember this happening with some large businesses in the past.
Regardless of how T handles these difficult situations, someone would be unhappy.
If you’re worried, ask your AM if you should be looking for a job. If he or she says that you would be working on your resume just in case, he or she may be tipping their hat to you. If they say you shouldn’t worry, then you should be fine. Don’t ask point blank. Most AMs are in fear of HR retaliation so they may limit what they say. But you can find out by things they might do. Like do they push you to do more. Do they assign you new work? Are they handing off additional things for you to handle? The less they are dealing with you is probably an indication your on the list.
If you are that concerned, talk to your AM. Based on the stack rankings, they will know who will be impacted and who is safe this round.
At least T is being honest. It's hard to hear right now but it really is better to be prepared.
Big tech and telcos are laying off. I think giant companies should be avoided. Too easy to have layoffs and absorb work with remaining employees. Look for jobs with midsized or smaller companies.

How am I ever gonna find another job? IBM, Google, Microsoft, Twiitter, Facebook, Salesforce, Cisco, Scale AI, Amazon, intel, and Netflix among many others, all have laidoff. I think it will be difficult landing a decent job now.

Maybe 3-4 years ago. Now it’s a different world. Tech companies are cutting thousands and thousands of jobs. The truth is you will probably be the least qualified unemployed person who is looking for a new job.
We are like in a SQUID GAME and they think we can concentrate with the daily fu----g calls. IM PRETTY FU----G thinking now to infiltrate all the shared folders and deleted all the sh-t stuff in there lol
att is a sh-t company and is managed like a sh-t company.

When I got surplussed my liberal crusading cu-t of a sh---y little AVP told me I had to keep working till the afternoon of my last day on payroll and perform "knowledge transfer". She kept wanting almost daily status reports as to what I worked on. I ignored her petty a-s and read all the layoff materials T sent me to make sure I understood all my options. Fu-k AT&T!
Funny, but my dotted line lead told me to spend the rest of my time job searching and not to worry because they had me covered.
My hope is one day my former AVP gets the same treatment from T as she treated everyone she came into contact with. Really hope Karma bites her hard.

How does one know when they've had enough? This place makes me physically ill. Right now I really hate my life.
As someone wno has been thru this, you will come out of this okay. If you find a job that pays less, keep looking. You can find much better job opportunities than what T offered. Try to stay positive and focus on finding your next job outside T. When i was surplussed my boss told me I needed to use my remaining time at T focusing on finding my next job. Unfortunately, there is no good way or time to lay people off. It’s business.
Yep it’s difficult. Use this time to find another job. You may need it and if not, you’ve got an option.
