Thread regarding Bank of America layoffs

I'm done with this cr*p

I'm tired of being denied promotions because my manager and those above him think that if I get promoted, then there will be a vacuum in my current role.

What do they want me to do? Stay in the same position forever?

I've been doing this job for years and it's time for me to move up, even if that means leaving BofA.

@OP+1kRYvJse - hey, don't beat yourself up. It's not like anyone gets more $$ with a promotion. Just a fancier (but worthless) title and more meetings to attend, more reports to complete.

If you've been in your role for awhile, you're probably really good at it and can do it in your sleep. Sounds like they value you in the role.

If you like what you do, then give yourself your own "raise" by working fewer hours. Take all your illness, personal days and vacation.

But if you really don't like what you do, then transfer to a different group or find something elsewhere that you will enjoy more. Life is too short.

There are advantages and disadvantages to your current position. It would have been to leave during a stronger job market but that ship has sailed. So, recognize you would be quitting in a down market. Meaning, your prospects would be fewer and layoffs would loom on the horizon. Being ‘last hired’ could translate to ‘first fired.’ Sometimes, the devil you know is better than the devil you don’t know.

Lastly, the saying, ‘the grass is always greener,’ is true. Twice in my career I received a manager position and realized I hated it. Not because I wasn’t good at it or because of issues with subordinates. It was because I felt like I was babysitting. I recognized that I’m a ‘work horse’ and that’s what I’m good at and that’s what made me happy. Once I became content, it enabled to expand my skill base and learn new things making me more valuable to the job market. I’m certain you will make the wisest decision for yourself.

Go get another job. Don’t wait too long. You won’t get promoted because you did good job unless you are one of the inner circle.

You're too good to be promoted. Let that be a lesson to you for next time. Only do what is required, and even then do it poorly. Only way to fix this is to get another job. Sorry.

Just quit, it will never change until we stop letting it work. They need to learn the repercussions that kind of thought has. Believe me, you leaving will make a positive long-term impact to those left behind.

Go to another company, I guarantee you will make more money. If you like the Bank so much come back after a few years. Negotiate a new salary. You have better chances. Best of luck!

They want you to stay in your position because you probably do an excellent job. They are waiting to promote one of their friends or cronies.
