Pretty sure I’m getting the can. I’d like to port my number away from Verizon while I blow my severance money traveling the world. What carrier or mvno should I port to that would be cheap to travel with while being able to keep my number so I don’t miss any recruiter calls?

You can use T-mobile,At&t,or Verizon Networks.
T-MOBILE .......... ie. current Stock Price = $215.15.
Suggest getting online and do some research…there are already Black Friday deals out there…good luck!
T-Mobile. First thing I did after getting can’ed is to port my number to tmo. Excellent service in and out of the country with tons of freebies like Netflix.
