Tears and Upset - Someone handed me a notecard!

Pretty convenient that someone had a note card to trigger the prepared statement to have a Dad talk with the entire company. If you respond other than how we expect you to respond get ready to get in line! And tears!

Sorry, but you gotta be a special kind of stupid to post negative comments on the webinar chat

@a5 this past year has really made me question the whole sports/team framing of everything. At it's best it can obviously be inspiring and/or a helpful metaphor to understand the importance of what we do. But it's EVERYWHERE. And it's often comically forced.

My cybersecurity awareness training led with a slide about "who's on court" as a way of talking about that there are multiple avenues of cybersecurity threats. Like...what? It's so confusing.

Then there talks like today, or even the last EH meeting: on the one hand, we need to "win as a team" when the stock is low. We need to "win as a team" when benefits get taken away—maybe even benefits that were part of salary negotiations for some. But when the "team" goes to the "coach" and says that something isn't right—hey, even if we come to him and say, "wow, that was terrible framing. Do you want to try again?" We're more or less reminded that players can and often do "leave the team", so we better "shape up and go for a run". There's no logical consistency to here. Just treat us like adults and say what you need to say. You could even show your work and share with us how you got here instead of appealing to emotions or some weird vague artifice of being an athletics team. If we're actually a team, it would be great to be treated like one. Alternatively, just call us "employees".

People are soft. Everyone wants free food, drinks, bean bags, and massage chairs to do basic work. Not upset they took stuff away. We knew it was a benefit that was more disruptive than helpful.

What I’m upset about was the horrible way they communicated it and tried to position it. Just rip the bandage off and come talk about it saying this is unpopular but necessary and we will get through it. Nobody is going to stay 25yrs here anymore so the ring is silly to recognize loyalty.

Offer buyouts all those who don’t want to be part of the comeback will leave. I’ll take it.

“Guys, I don’t like working here just because of wellness week”

No.. I would imagine it is for the 30 MILLION salary.

Negative feedback is not allowed. Management will take away a week of PTO and you will thank them for it!

It's really immature that he can't just own that his decision will have negative consequences.

Eh, this was always going to be a temporary benefit - anyone who thought it would go on forever was being naive. Still, how do they expect people to react?

Just the worst framing of that message possible. Total unforced error, to put it in Nike Comms terms.

Bringing in the Dodgers coach to talk about how important “showing up”, we’re not stupid Comms Team! You did this with Coach K years ago as well. All the great moves Elliott has done so far have been erased by this huge mistake - all for the sake of “winning”.
