Thread regarding Optum layoffs

Why are we having to ask for feedback

This year we have push to have employees have other employees put in feedback in my gps and also the ask was to give 2-3 people a request to give feedback about myself. What does this mean? Team was hit with layoffs and already lost 3 people last month.

Any pay increases or bonuses are controlled by finance and the pay % dictated to your executive leadership who filters it down to their leads. In recent years even before our grim financial situation leaders were told not to give any 5s and to give even exceptional performers 3s. If a 2 is given the manager has to (per HR) put the person on a PIP. Most should expect to get a 3 (1-5 scale).

Don't waste your time writing a detailed self reflection or spending a lot of time on feedback for your peers. It won't matter. The rating system is not fair or adequate. The company does not pay for performance or loyalty. It's all a favoritism game. And then even if you have a good relationship with your manager they have very little power to give you anything other than the average 3 rating or the average pay increase (typically under 1%).

Feel free to borrow my self Reflection

Started the year strong by immediately forgetting all my “new year, new me” work goals. Continued my heroic streak of answering emails with “Per my last message” while suppressing primal rage. Achieved a new personal best in pretending to understand project updates during meetings.

Thrived under pressure by completing a major project at exactly 11:59 p.m. on the due date. Reinvented multitasking by simultaneously attending a meeting, answering emails, and staring blankly into the void. Earned at least three “Let’s circle back on this” badges of honor.

@cn I think this is very accurate. For me, I have been told there is no work while they give assignments to contractors. I am expecting to get RIFd next round, was surprised I wasn’t hit in the October go. Haven’t had work since July. Guessing they are keeping me around because I have knowledge they might need.

I didn’t let the time go wasted - I got paid to get my Python certifications. Working on my AI/ML through an accredited university now…smh

It is standard practice to preach teamwork through the year, then give out raises / rrp to only a portion of the team.

Preach teamwork, reward individuals.

the employee feedback is probably to see who will sell out their peers... means nothing in the long run as the performance grade and salary considerations have already been given to senior leaders... my manager has already shared what my rating and comp is for what they have submitted....

now we wait to see what the senior leaders say and push down to have the manager report back to me...

It's standard practice, just because they want it, doesn't mean it's going to be used. The employee doesn't have to provide the information or provide a "look back" on their year. It's always the same ol', same ol' boys/girls club that get the good marks and worthy raises anyway. Heck, I already know that that measly yearly increase, if it happens, will not even cover the increase amount in my benefits I'll have to pay bi-weekly next year.

No real reason. Just another annoying task that they can ping you for if you fail to do. The reviews aren’t used whatsoever.
