Thread regarding Centene Corp. layoffs

$1.5 million for food security

I’m all for helping others, but what about helping your employees who are not making a living wage first? We all know this isn’t coming from Sarah’s hefty paycheck and she doesn’t have to worry about where her next meal is coming from.

yeah i mean honestly it's great PR but at the end of the day our own employees are struggling/suffering.... and the thread is right. NO WAY Sarah would ever donate anything worth mentioning to help the hungry... ahem we ARE the hungry. feed us first then we'll help!

The bulk of Centene's employees (at least in administrative support to my knowledge) make less than $50k base per year, and they are people who have been with the company for five years or more. For newbies, the going rate is just below $16hr on average (depending on the state min wage) - that's $640 a week gross. That's $2560 a month before taxes. That alone barely covers a month's rent, never mind food. Let's not forget that most people DO NOT qualify for SNAP unless you have dependents (kids), receive SS or are disabled. I don't want to see anyone go hungry ...period. So imagine the struggle employees are already facing without that assistance. Then you add in the members - a considerable amount rely on Medicaid which means they are already below or at the poverty line - imagine how much they are struggling. If the ACA subsidies don't get extended - it's going to further exacerbate an already very bad situation.
