Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Heads up: NVWs are next

If you’re still classified as a virtual worker, you’re in the crosshairs. Notices are starting to go out that NVWs will be required to “follow the work” and RTO full-time in Dallas, Atlanta, or New Jersey depending on org. My source says the plan is to eliminate all remaining virtual roles before year-end with any remaining to move and RTO by June 2026 or terminate.

Don’t assume you’re safe, they’ve already pushed out some of the best and most experienced people here. Titles and “essential” status won’t save anyone. This is your warning since the company won’t give you one.

That is not how all WFH positions work. It is absolutely possible to work 200 miles away from nearest corporate office and be hired that way in the first place in the role. Unless you were a silly manager who thought you could move after you were hired to perform a job in one location and while being allowed or mandated to WFH for various reasons and then were later ordered back to be physically present in the location were you were initially supposed to be. The problem at AT&T is a lot of smart capable people don’t apply for management positions anymore because they know they have no protection like bargained employees do.

@OP
That might be true in a tiny corner of the company. However, they've been saying that for over a decade. Look at Altomari org of individual contributors sitting in their home office outside the 22-state footprint.
Pull a Webphone report and check out how many L3s are sitting in remote areas or WFH.

“ Although it does sound like BS that you live 100 miles away unless you moved away while virtual“

I get why it may “sound” like it’s BS, but it isn’t.

I haven’t moved at all, I’m 25+ year employee. There used to be other offices closer, that were subsequently closed by Real Estate. But no one cared where we worked from then anyway.

@f9 Good for you. It’s good work if you can get it. Although it does sound like BS that you live 100 miles away unless you moved away while virtual. I suppose there are some limited scenarios. I knew a gal that did that and got caught up in RTO and had to retire.

Already got it, and already interviewing at two places. 3rd round of interviews and 2nd. I have enough PTO that if I get hired and they want me to start before EOY, I can tell ATT to pound sand and bank the severance. This company can continue to implode for all I care. I stopped joining meetings to help put out fires in this organization. The only people left are the incompetent.

@f9

This guy gets it.
Milk it as long as you can, stack money, and if they bounce you walk away and do something else.

It’s no big deal.

Hey OP

(I know this is the same person that keeps reposting this “breaking news” from their “source” every few weeks)

I did follow the work. Followed it out of my bed, and over to my home office while still in my PJs. I post this not to gloat, but only because I know how much it bothers you.

Here’s the thing. It’s not my fault they changed the rules and made everyone go back in 8 x 5, nor is it may fault the only office deemed acceptable for me to go to is over 100 miles away…but I’ll gladly, and without complaint, continue to report there at least once a month.

And if at such time they do lay me off solely because I am unwilling to relocate or go into the 100 miles away office 8 x 5, then I will retire, and I will welcome that too.

I’m winning either way, and I’m sorry you are so miserable.

@OP this is a BS post from HR to shut up or cover the fact that 10k are NVW and will remain like that. They are “especial”, some in many locations and some already in the three hubs.
Be careful y’all with some posts. They are trying to hide the unethical reality that is to stay. Shame.

Bull. Michael Boyer has 2 of them that are totally retired at home and never go to the office.

Ok.
I’ll call their bluff, lie and say I’ll move.
Last time they gave me virtual, if it comes to June and they don’t budge I’ll resign.

Don’t care.

To the “teachers pet” person…you really date yourself with that phrase.

No one under 50 knows what you’re talking about.

Phoney Baloney, and. I am guessing you’re the same person tr--s this same “breaking news” from your “source” every couple of weeks. I suspect you are also the same person that routinely spouts vitriol against anyone that still has the NVW designation.

Total B.S. the Torretta org is full of them or they report in once a month . Any of the teachers pets only have to show up a few times to be marked good.

Oh, there’s always an exception. Every org has that small group of elite buddies who look out for one another.

“Best and most experienced” means no new innovative ideas to grow a brand past what worked in 1995.

You have been posting this for 2 years now, they are still around and some are even being hired virtual. We get that you hate them and can't get past your petty jealousy, but they are not going anywhere. Maybe you should work on moving to a virtual job and stop trying to bring to bring others down.

@OP they can’t do that as some of the folks are indispensable with critical skills

It’s been over two years now for employees to make decisions to move. It’s to bring everyone together and get on the same page.

I have heard the same from a highly credible source. Also if you’re in a hub and a COE job opens (like Austin) they will not let that happen either. Have to take the job in the hub only….. I personally know someone in CSO that was affected. They are all in on this those that expect any relaxation on RTO/WFH is delusional. Good luck to all.
