Thread regarding Open Text Corp. layoffs

Let me tell you, folks—this whole thing, it’s built to break you down.
Absolutely designed to wear you out and undermine everything you do.

And the worst part? They want you to feed the machine.
You write the articles, you pour in all the knowledge,
and they call it “important”—but really, they’re pushing everyone
to dig their own grave while smiling and congratulating themselves.

Management in this whole corporate Hunger Games—they don’t care.
Not even a little.
They’re too busy setting up the game to bother with the people playing it.

you get 1% or more because your manager doesn't care and doesn't fight for you, same as my manager doesn't.

And if they randomly get 2%, just because of your hard work, not because management pulled it out - they will position it as a big deal that they did it, not you.

@11z I did this years ago, and it sent me through four pay bands. Enough to catch up with inflation, even!

Rated performing. No raise, since I wasn't leadering well enough. Difficulty, I'm an individual contributor. Completed all my goals too.

Ah well, I'll just give myself a raise by reducing effort. I'm thinking 10% is about fair. Just like last year.

This will eventually result in being laid off. Which is bound to happen sooner or later anyway regardless of whether I bust a-s or not. All the while diligently being in-office for the mandatory Tue-Thu days.

Nice culture you're building there OT.

@104 They do this sh-t every year. Same with having the performance review conversation.

As for your suspicion that the increase will be disappointing: isn't that every year?

I had a manager say that most of his team got zero increase in pay every year. They had to make things up as to why the employees got below average ratings, just so they could maintain the illusion that these people didn't deserve a raise; when in actuality the mangers were forced to give the largest percentage of their teams a big----fat----zero.

People Managers have meetings on their calendar, today and tomorrow, scheduled by HR, about communicating merit decisions: "for more details on our pay for performance philosophy and support for sharing merit decisions with your team".

This suggests that the merit increases this year for most employees will be disappointing, or that there simply will be no merit increase at all. Otherwise, why would HR schedule meetings with people managers on how to communicate merit decisions? It's probably, because it's going to be bad news....

The conversations are meaningless. The only thing that matters is the overall rating on the form, and even that is subject to meddling.

@a1 That's what I figured. Probably waiting for the next round of layoffs, so no point wasting time on us.

No, but we believe we’re not considered core, so they’re holding off for now.
