RTO medical exception

Hi All,

Does anyone have experience with a medical exception that can change their working arrangement? Are they lenient on the conditions that may qualify for this? What is the process? What was the end result? Was documentation needed? Did you experience discrimination from management after?

I personally have a condition, that although is not life shattering or major, would greatly benefit from a relaxed work arrangement.

Some Doctors are je-ks and won’t fill out the paperwork because they’re trying to cover their as, even if they know you’ve had issues for years and it’s legitimate. In the US it’ll last one year but then will need to resubmit.

Raise the reasonable accommodation form to HR. Specifically ask for an appointment to be set up with occupational health and they’ll make recommendations. In my experience HR usually follow it

Don’t listen to @1a0

You will not get a remote accommodation for anxiety. At best, you will be offered noise reducing headphones in the scenario they provided.

The accommodation for anxiety was a rumor started by senior management in the early RTO days to pit employees against each other and try to force out those who had accommodations.

For a remote arrangement, you need a legitimate medical condition and it requires medical documentation.

But don’t take my word for it, go ahead and try and see how far you get. Bet you’ll get offered headphones and nothing more. Otherwise, everyone would have a remote accommodation if it was easy.

@185 it's in the human resources website, people source solutions or whatever it's called. It's called a reasonable accomodation. Mine is medical, related to anxiety. I'm in counseling for it and have been for years. I also proved to the company I work better in a quiet work environment (i.e. my house) due to the reduction in distractions. have your counselor sign the document and then submit it. It'll be reviewed by HR and then by your manager/director.

@za Where did you get the form? Is it in the HR portal?

Do you mind me asking what the accommodation is for? What’s the ailment? Don’t need specifics if it’s uncomfortable

@OP have had an accomodation since 2021. Printed the form, had my doctor sign it, no questions asked since. Have also changed jobs internally since then as well.

I heard they’re cracking down on those with medical exceptions. Looking to lay them off as well

Also note that anyone based at home at least in my area doesn’t qualify for a promotion. I was specifically told by my director that they are not promoting people from home. Could be a policy of my dept but not sure how widespread it is.

I had used it at different times for medical reasons like procedures or health issues but there is a beginning and end date for those when you are able to return to regular work day. You can have a reasonable permanent accommodation for religious or medical reasons but has to be proven to be legitimate.

Yes you can but there can be provisions such as having to go in if you dont have internet and stuff like that. Had someone accept and offer then play the bs game immediately after of i cant be in due to lights. Then why did you accept the position? Needles to say shes no longer here and the game she tried didnt go in her favor

Depends on country. In UK, see loads of people claiming these now and working mostly from home.

@OP yes, you need to have a dr fill out the 5 pages of paperwork. Go on intranet and type reasonable accommodation. Then print the form and return it via pdf in an HR ticket. And no, they are not lenient at all. Has to be legit reason and only stays in effect 6 months if they approve it.
