Terminated Canada Employees. Don't Sign Your Severance Letter Yet

Watch this clip. Around the 12 minute mark, they start talking about severance. Really useful info

Also - check out this severance calculator to see if you are owed additional severance. Probably not entirely accurate but it'll give you a general idea.

It's supplied by Simfuru|Tumarkin. Those lawyers who are on the employment law show on Global every Saturday morning.
Lawyer up. I've got calls in with numerous law firms to see who will give me the best price.
Don't let these sc-mbags get away with not giving you what you are owed/deserve.

Employers, and insurers, will always pay the minimum. They will lie to your mother to save only a thousand. Lawyer for big paid job, paralegal or even use a student-at-law for an entry level termination. It can all be affordable. Don't sign.

@bn No, actually no lawyers were involved. He did this all on his own. My point was companies pressure you to sign off on it so you can’t go back and demand what you are owed.

and all he needed to do was sign up with the nice lawyers and everything was a fairy tale.

Conveniently you guys always gloss over how much the layers charge.

The biggest red flag is posting across the other layoff sites. This is a sad version of ambulance chasing.

@aq Totally disagree. They’re banking on people being pressured to sign and return before the “best before” date or not shelling out the cash for a lawyer.
I know a guy who was laid off recently from a manufacturing job. He went back to the employer and demanded more money. They gave him an additional 3 months.

This is posted on all of the layoff sites and not related to anything at COP.
Lawyers taking advantage of the situation trying to su-k money from you by getting you to pay for their services.
If you think COP hasn't run the severance package through legal then I think you will find out the hard way that COP isn't going to do anything that doesn't follow all the rules.
