Is 6 hours in the office still relevant?

In Pittsburgh, depending on your manager most people leave at lunch and wfh for the other half. As long as you get your job done it shouldn’t matter.
@kc I just don’t understand the discrepancy in how this is applied to different folks under different teams in different locations. There’s a guy who literally has been leaving every day at noon for months and he’s still here with no issues.
@fb not true, I was fired with manager approval. Have it written down and signed by HR.
@fd Not sure why you’re coming at me with such aggression, I myself stay here for the full 8. I was just stating what I see, so lose the attitude.
@fd+1k98a0jz9 Hey genius different poster here. With 45/50k employees do you think all depts are subject to the same rules? My dept was told we can leave at lunch. And that hasn’t changed. Have you ever talked to your offshore team? Maybe ask them how many days they have to do. You might be surprised lol
@cc hey genius its cause they havent been caught. Its supposed to be 4 full , that means whole 8 hour shift long. Why is it so hard to comprehend. All the sneaky sh-t is the reason they think babysitting and tracking should happen
@ae cause you su-k and mess everything up.
@f6
That is changing fast. I know someone who was disciplined for this in September. You consistently come in and do a few hours and leave at lunch to WFH, you are going to get caught. They are onto this unless you get an OK from your manager for a valid excuse.
I see people come in for 2-3 hours in the morning and then work from home. To each their own. Must be nice to have a boss that doesn’t micromanage their time.
@d0 - Pissburgh remains the problem child . Most MDs do not manage or direct anyone. I am thinking one in particular if know what I mean. They have let the team run amuck.
Ha haaaaaa, I dont know you but I know we'd like each other.
No. It’s 29 hrs a day 9 days a week.
Well I know in Pittsburgh the garage is completely full by 7am and by noon or so it’s open again because so many people have left. I see people leave 12-1 every single day. They still have their jobs at least for now.
Hahah lol, the people who actually did more than me (I do bare minimum) were fired this year (they fired 3 people). So no, there is no point to actually WORK.
More laziness from posters here. How about you WORK. The OP is just looking for a check without the work. You should just quit and work for the new socialist mayor in NYC.
Thank you to everyone who replied normally lol, Im on my notice period so I no longer care to be in the office for 8 hours to be honest. Thankfully I found better position.
No, most offices you can tap in and that counts, person in ours comes in for about 30 minutes a day
I think they've done it on purpose in not specificing what the minimum amount of time 'in-office' is.
There's some tw*t in our department that pops in between 2-4pm everyday and they're still here... So who knows!
Purposely ambiguous!
@av retail banking is not sustainable. No one needs banks. All done online. Any back office transactions are moving to India. I haven't set foot in bank in 2 years. Before that my bank for 10 years eliminated lobby tellers for a fancy copier machine and no more vacuum tubes at the drive thru. Just a bank manager and security guard pointing me to the fancy copier when I walked in last.
@aq+1k98a0jz9 I wish I only had to work 9-5. I’d gladly stay there all day. My group has to stay till we’re done. There isn’t a clean drop everything and go time. Sometimes it’s 6:30. Something’s it’s 7. Sometimes it’s real bad and it’s midnight. Acting like everyone has the same work hours expectations dates you as a dinosaur and isn’t what happens in our global work environment. I’m not sitting in that office 10-7 on a good day so people like you can be happy.
Work is 9-5 M-F. Work is done at the office for over a century. No whining, just winning
People have been fired for consistently showing up for 2 or 3 hrs and going home. They’re looking for patterns not an occasional leave early or come late. If every Friday for months you leave at noon that’s a pattern.
@a6 - you mean the tech risk area ? We are still here in Credit ! We will be sitting late again today!
it was never a thing.
In 240 G where I sit on the 9th floor, I don’t see anyone right now. It is only 4.15 PM!
It's a good question and totally relevant if you want to keep your job! Sadly, HR is never clear in their policy communications or in defining what is relevant when measuring and reporting stats for in office visits since they also track badge swipes, time on network (from office ip address), active keystrokes, Eliza usage, bowel movements.
What's interesting is that there is no actual meaningful correlation to productivity or work outcomes. Again, this is just another trap set by HR workplace policy for control and compliance.
Fire up an incident with MyHR. You may get some kind of 'non-response' this quarter along with a request to close the incident after your initial question goes unanswered in the first place. You know, it's another one of those self-services 'make work' things where you do all the work and get nothing in return from HR. Smh.
@OP I know people
That do 1 hour a day daily and are
Fine
Like, per week? You're nuts.
For my team in Manchester, it's 4 full working days expected in office. Occasionally might allow someone to leave early and log back in, but only on occasions.
