Thread regarding Dell Inc. layoffs

They are doing it again!

Tech support US here.

It seems like we’re seeing a shift in staffing with more roles being filled by people from India. I can’t help but wonder why Dell doesn't consider hiring more people from the US when there are so many qualified candidates ready and willing to work. We’re being told to take ethics courses, which honestly feel more like a chore, yet it seems like the company itself is falling short of its own ethical standards.

It’s clear that the company is gradually moving its US operations overseas, and it’s disheartening to see how this has unfolded. First, we saw changes to our healthcare benefits, and now it feels like the focus is on cheap labor at the expense of loyal workers. It’s tough to continue supporting a company that seems to be disregarding its employees in favor of cost-cutting measures. This needs to be stop.

@at and I bet most of those 170 positions are fake. They are fake job advertisements to prove that no US applicants exist so that Dell can sponsor the visa holding employees. When I was working at Dell years ago, I used to apply for them without knowing and thinking that it will be a level up for me. Then one day a manager told me the real truth. They don’t hire US candidates from those ads. It is clearly unethical and maybe illegal too. But what the heck, it is working for the company. So they keep doing it. US workers are sc--wed from both ends.

@fg Most of the world is absolutly not "far ahead" of the US lmfao. English is literally the World language. Go to ANY country on earth and 99% of people speak at least some English. Excluding the tiny countries who have no tourism, anyways. Go to literally any major country in Europe or Asia? English is 100% spoken. Broken english usually but they know enough to communicate. He-l, even SIGNS and menues are in the country language AND English lol.

Most countries look up to the US in some way or another. The US has a MASSIVE part in the world economy as well. Most of the largest global companies are US based - which employee thousands and thousands of people world wide.

So yes, in a way the world actually does revolve around the US...

@dy Yes it may still be cheaper but not enough in which they won't start considering US citizens first.. They also can no longer write it off for taxes.

@ab I mean, that can be said about any Dell employee lol. You just happen to live in a country where people de-----e on the side of the road and drink from muddy water.

@fg Yes but, Dell IS an AMERICAN company based IN the USA. Dell is a global company yes but, but what fortune 500 company isn't global? Every single office outside of the US is a satellite office. Some are larger than others and some are quite small. Dell has a few satellite "HQ" in other countries - Limerick being one - but the bulk of employees literally are in the US.

Dell's HQ is literally in Round Rock Texas. That's the main HQ and where Dell has it's main resources for a lot of things.

Apple, Microsoft, Tesla, Amazon, Nvidia, etc... and damn near most fortune 500 company's are literally based in the US lol. Obviously not all of them but a LOT of them are US based.

Doesn't matter if a company is global but, in this case Dell's HQ is based in the US. Therefore EVERYONE not in the US working for Dell is considered "overseas." Sure, if you live in India and work for Dell, we are "overseas" but only because we literally are lol. But in Dell's eyes, YOU are the one's overseas.

Fun fact, the US is "overseas" for all the other Dell offices around the world (which far outnumber those in the US) and not all Dell customers are from the US and speak English only. This is the problem with Americans, they believe the entire world revolves around them and have no clue that the rest of the world is years ahead of them in almost every aspect of life.

@bc And why do you think that is? 25% taxes will be offset by local govts with incentives. however the taxes may come out of our pockets here, unfortunately. Whatever the companies pay, they pass it down.

@OP

Companies do not care about loyalty these days.

As for Ethics, this isn't an ethical problem. It's simply the company goes where there is cheaper labor.

There have many different new postings with your general questions and comments. People need to understand that they could care less about local resources. It's painfully obvious. The sooner people see that, the sooner people will realize they need to look for work elsewhere.

The proposed HIRE act doesn't change the economics enough to reverse offshoring. An 'offshored wage' with a 25% tax added is still lower overall than the US wage. In the end, it's another tax that would get passed along to the consumer.

Just search Java in the careers section and look where all the jobs are. That should tell you all you need to know.

It's not Dell operations they are migrating... it's Dell IT and very much so tech support. Yes, there are millions of very very qualified US candidates however for every ONE US tech support employee, they can employee 2 or 3 Indian employees for the same price.

It's the same with promotions. Why promote a US employee when you can promote 2-5 employees in India, Mexico, or other countries all for the price of... ONE US employee!

It's bull S and we all know it is but, hopefully Trump's HIRE act passes as that would charge any US company a 25% tax for EVERY employee they hire outside of the USA and would not be able to be written off. Essentially, it'd make it expensive to hire anyone outside of the US.

I feel like in some ways, Dell is outsourcing asap in case this does pass at some point... I'm not sure it'll affect companies who already have outsourced employees or not but, companies need to quit outsourcing jobs overseas for cheap labor. It's ridiculous at this point.

Damn near every single product we in the US buy is made in another country these days and yet, the company itself is US based. Not a single iPhone is made in the US. Not a single computer chip is made in the US - well, 99% aren't anyways.. NOTHING we buy is actually made IN the US anymore. It's pathetic and sad.

idk about anyone else but, I HATE calling tech support and ending up with some dude in India who I can hardly understand and he's going off of a literal script.. I usually hang up if they are and will wait in line again until I get someone I can UNDERSTAND.

To add merit, searched the internal jobs portal yesterday. There were 750+ positions listed. After filtering to US, there were just over 170 positions remaining. There is a very conscious effort to overlook US employees and it needs to be addressed ASAP

In India, the average salary is $9000 per YEAR!
In India, they don’t even get a health insurance. The only thing that Dell takes care of is a taxi for its female employees to get home safe as it’s dangerous to be a woman over there…
Yeah, what kind of ethics is Dell talking about?
If they could treat us lower than dirt, they would!
How low can they go?
You need to understand that we are absolutely nobody to them.
