Thread regarding T. Rowe Price Group Inc. layoffs

Be encouraged…

Times are tough. Changes are coming so fast we can barely keep track. Don’t be discouraged. It is so easy to stay in that mindset. Everyone has moments or seasons, but there is a way through and we will band together to find it. Within TRP or somewhere else. The journey is often difficult, but we will find our new normal, adapt, and flourish. Bad leaders will be exposed eventually. Bad business process too. Unfortunately at the expense of great people sometimes, but that is just the nature of business at this level and in this climate. Care for each other. Check in on one another. The greatest assets are the people, and when we look around at each other, there are far more good apples than bad.

@mn honestly, AI would be better than the HR trash at this company

Hiring is down but it's not 0. Put yourself out there and move on while it's still on your own terms.

@OP Hr has Ai writing you “how to feel good about being canned, employee let downs”.
Well at least they are using ChatGPT.

@bx Yes. The powers that be (whether at TRP or another firm) don’t realize that we won’t be able to purchase and invest when we are unemployed. The economy will shut down.

@gn too true. T Rowe Nice is a myth

@gn For what it is worth, for those of you on X (formerly Twitter), there is a community on there called "American Sidelines". It is a community dedicated to American IT workers who lost jobs to H1B and offshoring. There seems to be an as--ult on the American Tech worker like never before. Some people were team leads and even CIOs and have now been out of work months or even years. It all seems good now for "cost savings", but this will bite us as a country at some point. We will have to depend on outsiders to handle all of our tech needs which is horrible for national security. I also question the wisdom of handing the keys to all of your data to people overseas who are not governed by US law, particularly countries where bribes are normal business. If the right foreign worker was offered the right amount of money to provide a company's proprietary data, what exactly would a company like T Rowe be able to do about it? Does the firm really know who their "workers" are?

@cm Very well said. The firm paints itself as nice but there are some truly rotten and despicable managers who bully and intimidate with impunity. HR protects the status quo. It does sound like fear and evil has gripped this firm and it is all of its own doing. A rotten firm at its core.

@ap This is the answer. Your "work family" is not your family, and they're not your friends. Most tend to play nice to get along, which is good, but they will turn on you quickly for self preservation. Those in the AV/VP ranks know this all too well. "T. Rowe Nice" was a luxury of good times, but it was a facade. Now, in the current environment, the facade is off. For those still at the firm and are living with stress and fear, you don't have to. Let it go. If you are laid off, you will eventually realize it's a blessing and a gift. Check-in on each other, but don't forget that it's just a job and you really are just a line item on a spreadsheet. Take what you learned from the experience and move on.

We've been hearing about d-bag companies firing competent American workers for years now in favor of either H1B or offshore workers that must be "trained" by the Americans on their way out. The whole thing is disgusting and morally wrong, and in reality, discrimination, but it keeps happening because the greedy entities who do this have the money to grease politician palms. I never dreamed I would find myself at one of these companies and in this situation. Now after investing decades into this career, college degrees, etc I may be forced out of it just to get by so I can retire. It is a shame these greedy companies do not see how the negative impact this has on communities and potential investors. What is the point of saving a buck with this practice when the community around you becomes poorer and poorer?

I wish that were true. What I’ve see in practice though is that “good apples” are far and few between. Many of your colleagues that seem ”good” may sell you out in a second to give them a better hope at surviving at this toxic dump. I thought I had friends at the company but that notion goes out the window pretty quickly when things go wrong. It’s dog eat dog ant this company and at the end of the day, no one cares for you.
