Thread regarding Target Corp. layoffs

Did Target's inclusion and reversal of DEI policies trigger boycotts from both sides, resulting in the company's financial downturn?

Based on latest reports of announced company layoffs Target is 12th on the list of 15. 12th!
UPS leads the way at 48,000, Amazon 2nd at 30,000 and intel 3rd at 24,000.
Did it contribute to already lagging results, maybe. But the truth is every company is struggling (sadly).

People who want to punish Target because of their Belonging At The Bullseye announcement want to take credit for their cause. There are many problems, no single problem is responsible for all of the impact. They all matter but let's not be naive and shirk our other real problems away. Plus I can't do anything about BC announcements, maybe I can fix something mechanically in the business

Stores have been a train wreck since Covid for both in stocks and general tidiness. Walmart recovered and added back payroll, target pulled back payroll even more in response to lower margins with the push to basics and away form discretionary without fixing basics of logistics. Why shop at a store if they are out of stock of basics like razors for weeks.

People need to understand that DEI is not automatically good or bad. It's the IMPLEMENTATION and execution of your DEI program that determines that. The right needs to admit that DEI can actually be done legally, while the left needs to admit that DEI can cross the legal boundaries if implemented incorrectly. The reality is that 99.99% of people in the U.S. want all people to have equal access to opportunity. But we all create strawman arguments and pretend the other side is evil/ignorant. And because of this we can't even discuss the actual parts of the topic that matter (which is implementation).

Go look at the financials. It's publicly available!

You'll find that profits have been going down for several years now. Politics has little to do with it. The company direction has everything to do with it.

Flattening out the company likely IS the right solution. Whether it's implemented correctly is another matter entirely.

DEI isn’t just about race. Without DEI women wouldn’t be in the workforce. Without DEI older individuals wouldn’t be in the workforce. We literally have a DEI president right now.
