Thread regarding Honeywell International Inc. layoffs

Why not offer a voluntary termination?

Some of us who are close to retirement would gladly take it, and I’m sure there are others who’d be interested as well. I’ve been here long enough to see that things aren’t exactly heading in a great direction.

You can volunteer any time.
Remember that there is no goodwill from Honeywell and severance is not in most peoples employment contract. Honeywell can show you the door anytime they want.

When a company intends to quickly cut personnel/overhead costs it's no cost to RIF people rather than the expense of offering severance. Since the company is splitting up HON is not so much concerned with their brand as they are dumping expenses. It su-ks.

beyond union contracts there is nothing that mandates severance other than market and brand goodwill.
why offer it when they can sell the business and dump employees with no big expense.
