the discussion has really ramped up… Iowa managers reporting they now see who isn’t in office 8 hours. SDI San Fran based employees saying there’s an 8 hour in office mandate… but my line of business has just heard its managers digression. Can any managers weigh in?

The most recent I've heard from multiple friends/resources (including myself being told by my manager) is 3-days in the office 8-hours IN the office, period. Not open for discussion. Su-k it up butter cup.
Yeah I researched this last week they quietly changed our company requirements to 8 hours per day, 3 days a week in office. When I spoke to HR about this last year they told me I just needed to do 4 hours a day in office and the rest could be worked remotely. Oddly, this is still the corporate policy for PTO. If you take 4 hours of PTO it counts as a full 8 hour day in the office (for in office hours record keeping of course). This view on PTO of 4 hours is insane to me, because what they are doing is incentivizing us to use PTO rather than make up days in order to keep our 3 day averages in compliance. This is all wonky try as much as they can to see what they can get a way with behavior in my opinion. Because from a legal perspective it doesn't fly that my work day of 4 hours at home/remote and 4 hours of PTO, somehow manages to require me to pay a city wage tax for the 4 hours that I worked from home that day. The IRS will come after you for underpaying your taxes, but they will never reimburse you unless you prove to them that you over paid. And since we are not given the option to make a different tax allocation we pay city, state and federal up front, then need to seek out reimbursement after the fact on corporate letterhead signed by our managers. What then? How will they handle 4 hours PTO standard?
Will they handle it when they need to have employees commit tax fraud with their signed support, (lying on your taxes is fraud regardless of if it helps you or hurts you) or not commit fraud and explain away the difference in the hours worked in office and taxes paid in city wage tax. These numbers all get audited. Forcing a thousands of employees to pay taxes to the city when they legally are not obligated to is a massive no no, and doing this at scale will steal millions of dollars from their employees. This won't go unnoticed.

Relax, people. They trust you wholeheartedly and as long as you provide value, you will be cherished and held. No need to worry about the peculiar powershell flash windows when you unlock your screen, and minion agents watching your keystrokes… management I’d just saying “hi”. And stop worrying they are running a layoff machine… that’s there only for the bad press. You are cared and loved, and they appreciate your shoulders to stand on, to tell the legacy employees about the farm, up state
If we are exempt do we still get lunch breaks? There are times when they require us to work on after hours stuff that can last 10-12 hours. Are we entitled to breaks and lunch. I know we can’t get overtime.

@a3 the lack of communication and formal documentation is deliberate, they're dancing on a fine line in terms of legal classification for exempt employees, hoping to encourage attrition and stamp out coffee badging, while not landing on the wrong end of a class action.
My LOB is requiring 3 days in office period. No micromanaging the hours. Everyone is too busy. I think you should worry less about the hours and don’t trouble trouble. They have to give you a warning. All i am hearing is people that didn’t show up for the 3 days

Yes, this is a formal job requirement now for many lines of business. The worst violators on my team have already been contacted by HR. It will be extended to most of the company in 2026
Alot are hearing it, but nobody seems to have official communication from the top? Odd
