Thread regarding Target Corp. layoffs

So are we expected to work on Monday orrrr...?

I was surprised (but kind of not) that nobody in my area of OB was active on Slack on Friday.
Are people just taking these next few days off until Tuesday? It feels really stupid to be wasting any breath working for deliverables if I might get the ax on Tuesday

If Target wanted productivity they shouldn’t have made people wait until Tuesday. Trying to squeeze one more day of work out of everyone. Fu-k these people I hope theyre reading this. I don’t know how leadership can see the level of stress and pain they’ve caused and not hate themselves.

@bk yes, Integrity is doing what is right even when no one is watching.

The last two RIF’s I’ve been through, in our are managers were let go. Hopefully that happens again as they hired more managers than we had in 2015.

My leaders haven’t said a word and are acting like business as usual. Still have a ton of meetings scheduled Monday and my boss is still asking for things for Monday. Kinda unreal. Or they know we’re not impacted? Regardless, it’s extremely tone deaf.

Our VP and all L8s sent out emails acknowledging this is going to be a tough few days and feel free to push out statuses and meetings, reach out for support, and take care of oneself as needed to deal with the uncertainty. I didn’t read that as a stop work order, more like don’t overextend yourself in the name of this company.

There is about 90% chance you won’t be laid off and will have your job plus more work on Wednesday- there is a 10% chance your work will be given to someone else who is now underwater. Control what you can control-do what matters most- your future self who now has too much work or your left behind coworkers who have too much work will thank you.

@bm I’ve been thru this before 3x. Not once has my “whole team been let go”. Parts of them yes, but the projects don’t all die, and who’s left gets the fun task of trying to continue them. It’s no fun, and the better you can leave them just in case, the easier it is. Also, people have been called back before. Being accountable in your role matters regardless. It’s easy to be bitter about this, but we should also be professionals.

My team including manager spoke Friday and we all agreed that Monday was resume building time and time to collect all information we need from Target for it (body of works, etc)

@bk But there is no point if your whole team is let go. Remember their focus is on restructuring and consolidation.

There is no guarantee of what will happen Tuesday. I am going to get as much done as I can Monday because I’m getting paid for it, if let go I want to make sure my projects are at a good hand off point for my colleagues, and if I’m not let go I still need to complete them. That’s just me, and how I want to be remembered whether I stay or go.

Be available if you boss calls or someone is looking for you, aside from that, no.

@a7 the only thing I’d deliver on Monday is a draft of my resume to all my recruiters.

My leaders have all cancelled or pushed out team meetings until after Wednesday, so yeah I think there’s going to be very little work done on Monday. The enterprise productivity loss is a direct financial cost of the poor decision to announce the layoffs so early.
