Thread regarding Target Corp. layoffs

Computers being watched

If you value any anonymity, you should not be browsing or posting here from your work computer.

HR and security teams are monitoring Slack, scanning channels and messages for content related to layoffs, and forcing people to delete messages that they deem unacceptable, citing vague security reasons (there is already one thread where messages were forced to be edited/removed). The same is being done for emails.

@ah printing to home printers was disabled last week. Any insights into when that function will be turned back on?

I've heard from a few people that they've received emails about policy violations when no policy has been violated, like emailing their annual reviews to their personal email or posting "confidential" information that isn't actually confidential, like stuff that was in newspapers from a Target spokesman. I wonder if there's any chance these policy violation emails are being sent out as a future justification they could use to let people go without a layoff that would require severance?

They are removing posts too.
There was a thread specifically about Owned Brand leadership and it’s just gone. So know not only should you not access this site on a work machine, there is also editing to the discourse happening too.

@ah If you're in Cyber, you know some of what's being watched. It's possible someone else outside of Cyber doesn't know, or doesn't understand the possible impacts. This post helps those people. It isn't a conspiracy if it's the reality being faced.

Your computers are always being watched. It's a corporate network. We know when you fa-t. That doesn't mean we care. This isn't some deep state conspiracy.

We're all worried for our jobs same as you. We didn't see this coming either, but stuff like this doesn't help anyone.

I am with Data Protection / Insider Threat in Brooklyn Park... We are not monitoring this site... I'd still try to stay private...

@a5 it is not unreasonable with automation and the compute that security teams use. Slack messages are a drop in the bucket of data security teams monitor

@a5 All public and some private channels (depends on channel configurations and who is in it and how many people are in it). Last I heard, they are doing a small set of private messages based on any activity flagged on Slack for a user, or on other sites.

@OP are they scanning public slack channels or private messages too? I don’t think it’s possible to monitor private DMs as it’s happening. You’d probably need to export the data or request it, and then look at it. For thousands of people it is unreasonable.

You shouldn't be doing anything not work related on your work computer... They can capture you CC information if you are buying things or using any personal passwords. Not that they would use any of this but it's naive to believe they don't have it.

I highly doubt anyone in their right mind accesses this website let alone posts here on a work machine.
