Unit I were you I would seek every available option out there before choosing Humana. Not every department is a hot mess but 95% of them are. Too much leadership that has no clue and the confusion and chaos is running crazy.

Do not work here. This place is incredibly and disgustingly unethical. Unethical is not a strong enough word.

If you’re not in a member/patient-facing role, the dark underbelly of horrendous practices may not be readily apparent, but not matter what role you’re in, you’re a cog in the wheel of all that’s wrong with healthcare in this country.

I got out when I finally in good conscience could not be part of it anymore. The longer you stay the more you’re brainwashed into thinking all places are the same. They are not. I was at the point of being open to take a pay cut to get out, but lo and behold found a job with better pay and comparable benefits for a company I’m actually proud to work for.

I justified staying here for years because the pay was okay, work life balance was good, and benefits were nice. The longer you stay, the more you’ll see yourself change. Justifying things that are criminally wrong, trying to convince yourself it’s not that bad, while slowly caring less and less about the people you came there to help from pure burnout, because you honestly can’t do anything to help them. The changes occurring within the last 5 years have all been implemented for the common thread of refusing to pay for things people desperately need, and making workers do bullsh-t work (genuinely harassing people) to improve the company’s numbers and subsequent government bonus payments. The company wide meetings are unbelievable - higher ups touting care and commitment while doing the opposite, an hour of literally a slew of the same buzzwords over and over and over again, and by the end of the hour they’ve answered exactly zero questions and provided zero information. For years. It got to the point of being laughable because it’s so clear that they all know what they’re doing.

Don’t get me wrong there are some great people who work here, and there are some middle managers who are great and do seem to care. But the C-suites and similar are unconscionable greedy pigs that literally watch people die from their fraud, sludge practices, and (what should be illegal) denials while they make millions.

Are you crazy? Human right now is a living he-l. I must work or I would be out the door. I find myself praying to get sick to go out on disability. No joke. Humana at present in my opinion is a horrible place to work. Yes people I am looking elsewhere. I have a family to support so I keep telling myself I can take the abuse.

You should accept the offer if you need a job and the offer is reasonable. Go to the Humana interview if it fits your schedule. Humana is no worse than any other company and is highly variable. It depends what department you work in. If you get an offer from Humana you can decide which offer is best for you.

Run far and fast towards the other offer… Humana is the titanic and the captains are ramming the ice repeatedly.

@OP Same here. I work on a great team and have enjoyed almost 30 years. I hear of issues in other places. My main concerns are the constant layoffs, early retirement offers and the outsourcing.

It depends on the area, I love the team I work on and have had no issues at Humana and have been here over 15 years. That said I know all departments are not the same and there are some toxic areas just like at any company.

Without knowing what area you are interviewing it's hard to say. I can tell you Humana is working very hard to use AI to automate many things and also going offshore as much as possible. Expect to stress about losing a job frequently unless you are working because you want to and not because you need to. In my own area of data and analytics associates are leaving as quickly as they can. Leadership is horrendous.

Only if you have no other option. Very challenging, as a nurse, profits above care just goes against my nursing standards!

I would only recommend taking a job at Humana if you were very desperate. Their pay structure is much less than you would make at the comp competitors. And raises are virtually nonexistent. The culture is terrible on most teams however, there are some gems still out there. I would only consider it if it was the only option.

@OP Humana’s culture is accurately described on its site, but ultimately it comes down to whether you see yourself as a fit within it. While Humana pays modestly, salary increases are very difficult to obtain. I would not recommend Humana to friends or family, as the environment can be detrimental to well-being and often conflicts with integrity and principles. If you really need a paycheck, not many job options available, could be a job with decent benefits.

It depends on the department you are working in. My leadership is wonderful to work with but unfortunately my direct leader is taking ERP. I think the person that will take her place is equally as good so no concerns. What I find difficult at Humana is the yearly stress of RIFs.
