@ay they merged two teams under my mom and as a result she had to lay off three or four of her direct report VPs. It is all very sad, they were all really good except for one, so in the end it's nothing personal.
But yes, one thing she's been saying during the few months she's been talking about the october layoffs is that if they can find someone to do the job 75-80% as well as the vp who's been there for 20 years, they will 99% most likely get rid of the VP and replace them with someone new who they can pay a quarter or half the salary as the old one.
But also, everyone is human, so don't prey on the downfalls of the ones who have worked their way up. One of her VPs that she laid off is a really good friend, who has a family, and now they don't have a job. It affects everyone.
But they do get 18 months of severence so... maybe less.
I’ll be sure to pour one out for the VPs who make half a mil per year who got their number called. Not.
