I've had friends in other companies who gave their notice, only to be terminated on the spot. The professional thing is to give notice, but I am afraid that if I do, I will be let go on the spot.

It is manager discretion. Unless you are toxic then they will terminate you. Walgreens for all these terminated employees so far had warn act as well as 2 weeks per year. Not sure about last wave. Also your manager if he treated you respectfully deserves the same treatment. But I do respect the fear of losing pay. Good luck and congrats of finding the next step job.
I worked at Walgreens and literally gave a two day notice. You’ll be fine.
You have no obligation to give notice. Do they give you notice if you were to be laid off, nope!
@b8 I wouldn't count on anything from Walgreens.
There used to be a policy, not sure if it is still out there, that indicated that if the company opts to not allow an employee to work their notice, that the employee would still be paid.
Are you giving notice because you have a job? Otherwise, what’s the point of your question?
