@y2 I was supposed to begin a QC job there on monday. But I've been following these threads for a while now. I've spoken to some people that work there in clifton. I was ready to start my new job on River road, but I think I'm going to ghost the place. Monday will come and go and I won't be there. I'm sure they'll figure it out.

There is a ton of people with fake papers. The national trackin systems su-k. There was a guy from Montenegro who got caught working illegaly as a cop in Chicago, I am not being political here and could care less about who's left or right, but when you think about this it's scary from the liability perspective. For many jobs we do mandate that candidates are US citizens but how do you even verify who is a citizen when it's so easy to fake papers and there is electronic way to check this. If you want to limit the risk asking for a passport makes sense - not sure if it's legal and if it's the best way to go about it but I do understand why they are doing it.

@OP It’s not that weird. After starting, you’d need to verify your citizenship anyway (not necessarily with a passport).

The company is trying to protect itself against the liability of inadvertently hiring someone who is in the country illegally. Also, several employees have been caught using false identifications. This is serious. A defense contractor with access to extremely classified information cannot afford to allow unauthorized people access to it. If you do not have a passport, a real ID or some other verifiable identification will be accepted. While it is helpful, you do not need a passport to work at L3 harris. It is simply another form of identification to verify who you are. A few years ago in clifton, a person who had been elevated to the position of supervisor, was discovered to not only be a non-citizen, but here illegally, from China!
