here is what happens
a company offshores. then they quit investing in training domestic talent. then they say that nobody in the domestic talent pool has the skills needed. and of course - talent pipelines require constant investment which was stopped. companies use to invest in colleges and communities in action to employees, now that’s seen as a useless expense.
flash forward a few years and they whine and cry to the government about how they need more visas and offshoring because americans can’t do the work and nobody wants to work anymore. flash forward a few years and they cry because the latest foreign country that they have bloated the costs of is now not cheap enough and they need to change their offshore country again and it’s more expensive than they thought
if donald trump of all people isn’t gonna address this head on then it’s hopeless. if you’re american you should refuse to work for any company that offshores purely to save money. the best work is done when skilled people are close to the business - this is obvious. offshoring is all about squeezing pennies and abusing laws
I'm in technology. I'd rather work with chatgpt or copilot.
The FBT functions in India are serious time drains. Hope they’ll be replaced by AI soon…
The Indian Support Teams needs to jump for the highest dollar and title just like they do in IT where they expect….Demand…Promotions…every 2 years…
Management consulting companies bamboozled fools in Oil & Gas corporate to sign onto long term contracts with little ability to suspend contracts.
So the premise of “cheaper compliant labor” arbitrage is a false premise.
One engineering sweat shop run by infosys presented smart looking female engineers to boost appeal with Na-i HR. But, 97% of engineers are males you’d feel uncomfortable in a subway with….
@OP ehm I've heard they had big problems recruiting: people lying on their CVs regarding skills and previous employment, even a guy who interviewed and then sent someone else on the first day. People using blatantly Chatgpt during interviews on ms teams etc.
My personal experience is that they lack basic skills and are not very proactive. It's going to be a big problem few years down the line and apparently the savings are not even that great if you want to attract the best.
From an ideological point of view, all offshoring contributes to the declining and polarisation of Western societies.
Got some guys joined in P&O projects, been in BP 3 months now and still do nothing.
Short SIGHTED. Lack of overSIGHT.
I can only speak for Technology but they are lot easier to work with than the US based resources (who have a major superiority complex and complain and moan while not delivering anything).
I hate having to spend time dealing with them and their low cost contractor alternatives. Low skill, ton of oversite required.
can we not find a pune-based ceo who can get the share price to drop for less compensation than muzza gets
I’m mixed. Seems short sided. Technical capability and execution shouldn’t be commoditized. I also believe technical teams should be as close to the execution of the physical work as possible. Relationship and the ability to work with the teams doing the work matters.
I also struggle with good professional jobs in the US/UK going overseas. Bp loves you as a customer- perhaps not as much love as a US/UK technical professional.
BP is learning that their office based staff is disposable and that field personnel are the ones responsible for the company’s performance and profitability. Time to layoff hard 35% of all unlucky subsurface and GoA asset support engineers….
@ah so long term solution for bp? Guess Layoffs can continue why hire people that only work at office 3 days a week and are consistently whining….Go team India…
Full disclosure Houston based tech
It's working out great.

The really appreciate the opportunity.
