After half our team got cut, things have been brutal. We’re all doing twice the work for the same pay and pretending it’s normal. No new hires, no plan, just endless burnout and silence from management. I'm not sure anymore who got lucky, us or those who were let go.

Like I said your ignorance makes you the problem.
As said already, do your required 8 hours and that’s it. Prioritize your work, and if something doesn’t get done, so be it. Keep supervisor in the loop so they are aware what work you’re focused on and what might not get done. In the past, it was expected that management put in extra hours, but that was when we had flexibility. I didn’t mind working a little extra if I didn’t have to commute every day. Those days are over!!!

The changes resulting from RTO have been great. Freeloaders have been held more accountable.

The “leadership” set the RTO rules. If they don’t like the output they’re getting as a result, then it’s on them to make a change. Don’t overextend yourself to meet some arbitrary deadline. Loyalty is dead. That goes both ways.
@d5 again, the workload is not your problem. Do your 8 hours each day and don’t check messages until the next day. If they’re not backfilling then the work must not be that important. If you let them take advantage of you and abuse you then they will. You need to set boundaries for yourself.
@a5 They are not going to hire anyone. Our group is in a really bad situation trying to manage workload while our knowledge base is drained through cuts and quitting. Yet despite the impact its deemed acceptable. We are like a V8 engine with only 1 cylinder still firing, struggling to pull the load.

When you reward failure in the C suit, you get more of it. After 24 years, I was happy to take my severance and retirement and walk.
Have all team members move up to 5x9 or 5x10 and the problem is solved.
@ah yes loyalty paid heavily but it was late. Go to office, spend 8 hours and relax, let hrbps do the remaining job.
What’s up with everyone recommending working 8 hours? I have allotted only 3 hrs a day to finish all my work.
@aa I used to do 50-60 hours a week when I worked from home for over 10 years before Covid. Now I go in the office and socialize and hang out with the guys. Maybe 2 hours a day of real productive work. There’s a lot of distractions in the office, but work has become a lot less stressful.

@ad the rule is 8 hours in office. I do my 8 hours and nothing more. If you want more than 8 hours again then let me WFH or pay me OT. Otherwise there’s a clearly drawn line now. Remember, loyalty is dead. Remember???
There are many who do more than 8 hours of work, support late night but AT&T don’t pay overtime to them. It has set expectation that if you are AT&T employee you will have to do it. They fired many such people under cobc using so called fraud presence report and said they were freeloaders. Remaining team is overloaded going to office still supporting extra hours. This is how AT&T mistreat their employees.

This isn’t acceptable if a member of management.
Are you in management? Management employees have always been expected to work overtime when required? Metrics have been showing a majority of employees have been putting far less than the baseline minimum 40. Continued righting is working to correct this.
It’s just obvious at this point that leadership plans to ignore and isolate us all until people abandon their severance pay, and any other money they’re entitled to, in order to protect their sanity and get out of here.

Let it fail. Just do what you can in your 8 hours and nothing more. They’ll hire more people if the work isn’t getting done and it’s that important. RTO created this problem. Now let them fix it.
