@h4 You're not wrong, but it is a net paycut. Especially for those of us that were hired as 100% remote employees years before the pandemic onlybtohve dell backtrack on their promises. For me it's roughly a 6% net paycut (wipes out 2 years of raises). Add in that healthcare premium increases have negated another 3 years worth of raises and the announcement that premiums and deductibles are increasing next year too and I totally understand why people are upset.
Lol...commuting, tolls, gas, wear & tear...it's called adulting. No one cares. Bad excuses.
@af Yeah, I'll tell you why. Dell is a global company and depending on the team/org you are on, chances are that the vast majority of your team is literally spread throughout the country and/or world.
I as an example, work in FED so everyone I work with does live in the US however, of the 13 people on my direct team, only 3 of us were deemed to be "onsite." Meaning that only 3 of us are required to go into office. Of those 3 people, we all live in different states which means that we go into an office in which NOBODY on MY team is even there. Yeah, pretty good "collaboration" right?
So then, I get to an office that is an hours drive away + tolls + gas + wear and tear on my car, only to join VIRTUAL meetings that I can literally join at home, or on my phone at a Starbucks bathroom!
So yes, it's depressing to be foreced to drive to a place in which NONE of your team works at only to join meetings that can be done anywhere in the world.
Which is why I coffee badge. - aka, park in a handicap space, walk to the badge reader, swipe, and drive right back home.
for me its working with the same set of team members!
@b4 Sounds like you need to work with a healthcare professional to get your symptoms under control.
@bc I have two that dud wonders for my mental health during WFH. Their accusing stares every day when I leave need RTO that much more depressing.
I get depressed in RR2. The place looks like something out of the 70s (a war shelter or a parking garage) with frowning workers everywhere. The lounge area is sweet but whenever I'm away from my desk more than 10 minutes people get huffy so I really can't enjoy it.
Another one of these posts...excellent...get a puppy
@b4 That’s a medical exemption if I ever heard of one.
It's beyond that for me. I suffer from IBS and the hour long drive in is fraught with sheer te---r.
Stuck in traffic? my knuckles are white from gripping the wheel. I have to don adult diapers because of this RTO.
PS: sorry for the bathrooms in RR2.
I hate it too but, realistically it's a job and well... it pays the bills so.
at least you have a job.
@af it should be pretty self explanatory but hete you go. Driving nearly two hours to sit in an empty office fir 8 hours doing what I could be doing from home but with 2 more hours of sleep is what's depressing. Dell says I live within an hour of the office and wouldn't admit they were wrong after I proved it. They say the commute is 58 minutes, but even at 4 AM it's 75 minutes. If I leave my house at 7 AM it's just shy of 2 hours.
Can someone explain what is depressing?
They'll keep on doing what they're doing until morale improves. Better go #allin already.
@OP+1k7cs9pg4 It's sad that you feel this way about Dell. We should be all excited go to work Monday, but not Dell!
It would bring tear to a glass eye its that depressing.
