Thread regarding Phillips 66 layoffs

Why do we have so many High Levels in IT.

IT has so many departments and similar functions. IT is a service, why not eliminate most of them by contractors and real IT companies. So many IT workers looking for work with AI so the pay and market availability is now a great time to lower our cost.

  1. Cost Savings
  2. Access to Expertise and Technology
  3. Focus on Core Business
  4. Scalability and Flexibility
    5 24/7 Support and Reliability
  5. Risk Management

Keep the chemical engineers and people in the field paid well. They are out in refineries and terminals in harsh conditions. Why pay them the same?
Most of them are useless and over paid and couldn’t get another job in the market.
John Deere man look into IT please!!!!!!
So many Losers!!!!

Not long after COVID, the Service Desk got shafted hard. Those folks worked tirelessly to help support the company and the massive influx of remote office work. After it was all said and done, they got outsourced to Insight Global.

The company slowly moved what FTE's they had from the desk, some of whom were later laid off. Many of the hardworking contractors who desired to be hired on got sc--wed over.

That is IT mismanagement in a nutshell. Put your people first!

The goal is to make you more marketable! Like when "analysts" become "engineers".

@aw what!? But they use Chat GPT to generate their material.. just like HR did with our job descriptions and titles that are less than 70% accurate. Hopefully your job description didn’t end up saying you manage IT equipment. Woo gotta make these titles and jobs consistent so managers still don’t know what you do and can easily outsource your role.

The issues within IT largely originate from the dysfunctional management in Houston, whose disconnect from reality trickles down through the ranks.

@bg what do you mean capital will outsource engineering offshore? We'll no longer use S&B for projects?

Yeah I agree, seems like IT creates useless projects, and never add value to our business. U can cut 35% and wouldn’t even notice. But start at higher levels they seem to be the most useless!!

Put the entire IT umbrella under Accenture. Then you'll be eating your words!

Whoever you are that thinks chemical engineers run the refinery, are definitely not paying attention. Non-degreed operators are running the refinery and not the calculation jockeys. Any individual with common sense and aptitude can run a refinery and dialing in for yields can be outsourced to 3rd party. Engineers make up about 2K of this company and believe they're making everyone money! 🤔 How many of you actually engineer? All of that old school engineering work is outsourced and to make matters worse, the capital group is now going to outsource engineering to offshore, so good luck on the 3rd party train after the board and ELT continues to cut while not losing a dime out of their pockets! They're designing a new way to justify cuts that are discriminating and biased while you are all on this website talking sh-t! Only an engineer would write something so stupid, and not care about others having a job to save margins for that 5% of the big share holder pocket.

I agree with this as well. And while on the subject of eliminating departments, can we add L&D to that list? They’re also too big and too many useless, overpaid leaders.
