What are the hard requirements to be eligible for promotion to SVP in the technology organization?

If you are an Indian, you must be a Hindu and must belong to top castes. At least tell them you like Modi.
You have to be friends with the hiring team.
You have to be good at petty politics.

Be a VP already and a fit for the position. Apply. The rest is networking and/or sheer luck.

Pretty rare anymore to be promoted in the same group. Best bet is look for open positions and apply. But in this culture why would you want to be an SVP? You just become a target with more stress.

It is all about being able to apply leverage in your favour - gets easier if your boss is a muppet and insecure in their abilities. Is that simple - does not depend on your technical abilities, how hard you work - only how much leverage you can apply. Say many people in your team left recently - apply leverage by being grumpy and convincing your boss you are going to leave too; say you lick your bosses a-s and you hoard work and convince them you are an expert in something - apply leverage and they will push for promotion to avoid losing you; straightforward buttlicking :D
