Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

We don’t need H1B

I’m tired of executives saying we need H1B, how come SpaceX has zero H1B? Exxon/Amazon are more innovative than SpaceX?

Bruh why you mad?
You probably hired cheap labor to do your yard work. You don't see anyone saying hire Americans to do yard work.
My suggestion, stop complaining and start a Consultant company and have VMO get you added to the list. Hire less than good talent and let our talented people train them. Then move them to another company for more money. Keep the cycle going and retire.
Then convince the leadership here that MSPs should be added to all leadership meetings; now you can influence without authority.
That's how you get rich!

@OP The guy who runs SpaceX has a lot of H1Bs working at his companies. Tesla is full of them and I personally know one who just got hired there.

As for SpaceX…it’s full of young and inexperienced engineers, which is part of the reason why their rockets keep malfunctioning during flight. It’s also why pay there is so low. They rely on third-party consultants and non-profits to do the heavy lifting for complex technical problems and to plug critical experience gaps.

@db Repetitive themes, same grievances & trolling tactics, etc.

I must be at least partially correct because it looks like I touched a nerve.

@ar how are you observing the person posted if it is anonymous? Secondly, I would say the majority of people in the United States don’t agree with DEI hires or affirmative action hires before it was ruled unconstitutional. The people in the United States also don’t want their good jobs going to foreigners. On the topic of foreigners going to college in the US I don’t think anybody cares as long as they pay for it.
As for the g-y people I don’t think anyone cares as long as they don’t get special treatment because of their s-xual orientation.
At the end of the day XOM would be a much better place if they started hiring the best person for a job instead of the DEI BS.

EM uses L1. Very few H1B. L1 can be a sponsored path to green card and EM limits it to only high potential foreign workers, typically those that will return home as country and refinery managers

It’s always the most ignorant people screaming the loudest. SpaceX absolutely use H1B labor. It’s why Elon was willing to “go to war” over H1Bs. Please go educate yourself with real sources before speaking

It's not funny, but the only engineers I know that ever read shakespeare or even studied history are H1Bs.
I've been here 10 years, working several sites, and that's a dawgone shame, I tell you.

Are there really no US citizens for these jobs? Or is it being able to under pay the visa holders?

There about 20 H1Bs working at SpaceX, back office jobs. Google it… Newsweek had a story on this… Also, SpaceX works in aerospace, rockets, satellites many of those technologies are subject to U.S. export control laws (ITAR, EAR). These laws restrict access to “non-U.S. persons” (i.e. civilians who are not U.S. citizens or permanent residents) to certain technical data or components. So for many roles, only U.S. persons are allowed…

Even h1bs agree the program is a scam. I have nothing against talented people immigrating here but the program is a scam. Assuming equal IQ distribution of the global population how come that three quarters of h1b visas ho to a single country which is 15% of global population. How come that top five it companies from that country gobble up 40% of all visas. The program is broken and the 100k fee will not fix it, they will just pay up and continue with the same shenanigans. Stop fu--ing with us.

@OP Been observing you for a while:

1) You don’t want people from other countries to work in the U.S.
2) You don’t want people from other countries to study in the U.S.
3) You have a pathological hatred of DEI policies.
4) You constantly complain about having a woman for a boss.
5) You don’t like colleges in general or people who went to one.
6) You have some weird thing with g-y people that I won’t go into.

There’s more, but I’ve made my point.

My take: you’re a disgruntled white guy over 50 who was (rightly) let go by EM sometime during the past 1-2 years and you’re currently unemployed. From what I can see it’s likely to stay that way.

Oh yeah, all the posts where you’re pretending to be an Indian posting racist BS aren’t fooling anyone.

The purpose of this board is to share information about layoffs/PIPs and maybe info on salaries and some possible job leads. Nobody wants to deal with your grievances. Take them elsewhere and get some counseling.

@OP SpaceX is a meat-grinder. Pay is also garbage.

If you want to work there go ahead and apply.

Source: been there done that.

SpaceX may not have many H1Bs because most of their contracts are from US gov't.
