Hi all,
With current h1b fee, do you think if any hope for new h1b hiring for QA positions at Dell? Thanks.

@jg This is what we did in ISG. All QA are devs, the role is gone...it has been replaced with....gasp...automation. Get it.

Watch what happens when there are escalations. People start adding more and more people. All you see is adding this person and adding that person. It's ridiculous. Offshore? It's ten times worse. We've let go of people that know and replace them warm bodies.

@cs oh ye, lets put DEV role on all and pretend they are dev now.

2000 escalations later... OMFG! OMFG customers are mad...

No way - Dell continues to replace and hire in India. H1B's too expensive.

Why would they need a H1B import for a QA job? Its not a specialized role, any technical newhire can learn quickly with enough training.

Worst people i worked with were H1B visa employees, artificially proactive, yes people with the constant fear of being deported to IN

@OP Dell won’t stop hiring H1B, but primarily fresh out of college. The market is bad enough that they aren’t worried about losing the few seniors they have and actually hope they do leave without severance.

@ad What talent? What little there was left long ago unless they’re stuck due to visa or life circumstances and they’re checked out too.

Honestly if Dell needs H1B visas for QA then there is something wrong with this company.

If a tech company isn’t willing to cover the cost of H1B visa fees, it usually signals that they’re only after cheap labor and that’s the case for about 90% of the companies operating this way.

I can’t wait to watch this ex-Dell employee blow the issue wide open on X.
