Thread regarding HCSC (Health Care Service Corporation) layoffs

So which is it? More layoffs next week, or nothing until December?

It’s impossible to function normally when we don’t know what’s coming. Our livelihoods are on the line, and it’s a real a--hole move from leadership to keep us completely in the dark.

@k5 yes a business but there are much better ways of handling layoffs. It was a major fail and one that executive leadership continues to ignore.

@k5 Yet the business shoves core values down our throats, engrains them in our goals, expects us to live and breathe them. But they don’t?

Caring
Commitment
Excellence
Integrity
Respect

The company lost ALL of that with how they rolled this out. Yes it’s a business, but will it be successful after this? A lot of people are at their tipping point. Everyone I’ve talked to that’s still employed feels the same. Will we all give 110% like they want us to? Psh no. What’s the motivation anymore? Nobody wants to work for leadership that will throw them all under the bus.

Has everyone forgotten that we work for a business and running a business requires making financial decisions that are often unpopular?
Yes it stinks and yes it would be great to have a heads up, but at the end of the day it is a business. If they don’t make these decisions now we could en up without a company for anyone to work at.

@OP it seems likely this is tactic. Fear and anxiety… forcing people to leave. That way, they can get closer to their attrition numbers without having to pay unemployment … and severance packages (which I guess they don’t have to do but likely donor for the good will in the community… otherwise it could really hurt business.). It’s just all about money. I’ve long felt like there is nothing transparent or ethical about this company. It’s super top down and protective of their bottom line. They haven’t seemed to have any problem je-ky around their employees out doing the hard work.

There are managers that have not said one word about the layoffs since Wednesday to their staff. Just shows you, they are scared to death. Until the end of the year, have a martini or two.

Agreed! The lack of communication says a lot about our current "leadership". Their bad decisions are causing the workers to now lose their jobs, regardless of performance, so the "leadership" can get their obscene bonuses. How far this once great company has fallen!

I will also do the minimum going forward and let my teams do the same, until this mess is resolved. I will also use that time looking for other positions outside the company and getting my skill certifications updated.

This mistake of targeting long tenured, high performers is now backfiring on our poor "leadership".

I agree. Same boat as you. Don’t know what’s happening, who we all report to since some higher ups are gone and what’s next. 0 communication.

Do we ever really know “what’s coming”?

You expecting them to give you a heads up 3 months before they eliminate your position?
