Microsoft asks all its foreign staff to return to US by Sunday after Trump's H1-B bombshell - Will Cisco do the same?

Microsoft asks all its foreign staff to return to US by Sunday after Trump's H1-B bombshell.

Time is running out for a similar call from Cisco - do they care?

Cisco has Approx 1,570 H1B visa employees

Does that include the read badges in US from the like vipro? I think those are likely 90%+ H1B as well. From the data, CISCO has approx. 40K employee in US. So it is like 4% - which I think the % is much higher in technical jobs in CISCO.

Private companies are like mafia. They do everything required to reduce cost and outsource everything for profits. They are also influenced by Indian and Chinese companies to outsource everything for profits.

Blame on greed and capitalism for this situation. Culture or continuous layoff and billions of money into VC.

America before 2000s had clear leadership in tech. We don't need millions and millions of SWEs.

Indian IT companies grabbing thousands of H1-B visa meant for US companies are the biggest abusers. It has reduced a lot this year since they can apply only one visa per applicant. They cannot flood the system with 20-30 applicants for single candidate.

Canada, UK and Australia have already changed the immigration rules.

MPORTANT: This order applies BOTH to entry at the border AND to USCIS petition decisions for beneficiaries who are outside the country. H-1B employees who already hold valid visas and are abroad are strongly encouraged to return to the U.S. before September 21 to avoid being blocked by the new rule.

What else to know:
• In U.S. on H-1B: Stay; leaving may block reentry on or after Sept 21.
• Outside U.S. on H-1B: Return before Sept 21 to avoid being denied reentry.
• H-4 dependents: Not named, but safest to remain/return before Sept 21.
• Cap cases Oct 1 start: Entry allowed 10 days early (Sept 21) → directly impacted.
• Visa stamping abroad: Likely refused on or after Sept 21 without $100K payment.
• Other visas: Not affected.
• In-country filings (extensions/transfers/COS): Not currently interpreted as covered.

For India, Trump's announcement has far-reaching consequences as roughly 71% of H-1B visa holders are Indian, the majority employed in the technology sector.

Long overdue, and I expect Cisco's sizable (and growing) Bangalore office to actually be thrilled about this.

Panic sets in now. Folks with H1 visa are deboarding flights leaving USA cities. This is now reversing the evils of H1 abuses.
