Thread regarding Oracle Corp. layoffs

These layoffs were not about young vs old

Some people keep trying to make it an age thing but it’s not. We’re all in the same boat. The divide is between us and the execs who make the calls. They’re playing with our livelihoods while all of us are just trying to get through the week and still have a job at the end of it.

@an most likely because they feel compelled to include younger fresher persons while they go after older employees - who very likely make more. They are attempting to mask ageism.

@c9 you pretty much exposed the real answer while talking about it just now, didn't you? these layoffs aren't really about capex, over hiring, or anything else.

they saw Elon cut 80% of Twitter and at least the site's still up, even if he did ruin the business, they're thinking...

the psychopath billionaires who think empathy is a sin are all playing the same game

@c7 There definitely was a hiring spree over these past few years. Like many other companies that had a hiring spree O is having second thoughts and is reducing headcount. Though the way those chosen to be dismissed seems odd. I think I would target the groups where the overhiring happened, instead of doing it across the board. But I'm neither Larry nor Safra, so no one asked me

saying it's only about capital expenditures is pretty ridiculous and stupid when it's record earnings record profits highest stock price ever and they're doing layoffs.

what proof do you have that is actually capex from data centers? is there no other way truly to make it happen? they got to get rid of 10% of the company?

I think this is about egos more than money. everybody saw Elon lay off a ton of people from twitter, and despite destroying the business, their simplistic explanation is well the sites still up.

every time somebody talks about capex and folds their arms so self-assuredly like they have it figured out while they're getting executed... it feels like I'm listening to the same people. they got it all figured out so smart

@a7 Everyone knows layoffs are about money. The real nonsense is the hiring spree to build a weak cloud product with nothing to compete against AWS. Once that half-baked product starts bringing in some revenue, it’s suddenly time for layoffs.

I was the youngest and newest member on my team and still got laid off
As always nobody knew why, because there was no other reason other than I probably got the highest pay.

My neighbor who is a Police told me the followings:

It's about the Money, Money, Money
We need your Money, Money, Money
All about the, uh, cha-ching, cha-ching
All about the, yeah, ba-bling, ba-bling

The layoffs are just about money. Surprising how many folks don’t get the basics - Oracle’s spending more than it makes. Cutting OPEX is the only way. Simple as that.
