Thread regarding Oracle Corp. layoffs

I regret working for Oracle!!!!

What was the point of working hard, getting a good review, caring about your customers, and adding value, only to be let go while performing better than others?

Totally absurd, thank you Oracle I can move to something better.

The point was getting a paycheck. If you were expecting anything else you must be new. And saying you were better than others is a pathetic cope. Get over yourself. Maybe you were a know-it-all pain in the a$$. Or you gave your manager the ick. That's how it is in this corporate he-l hole.

I dont regret working for Oracle, have used my incarceration time to invest a bunch in my IRA/Roth IRA/HSA then let the miracle of compounding growth this into over 7 figures. Didnt make a ton, just didnt buy stupid sh-t (show offy type of stuff etc) and invested 25-30% like clockwork from payroll deductions. Now am thankful for the RIF notice. Have other stuff waiting on the bench and can now go after that, with a really good severance package and good memories. Still su-ks in the way it was handled but business is business

Common trend. My company used to be brillant to customers ans employees. Then a new CEO took over the place, installed his lackeys and ruined it at least for the employees.

The whole industry looks like this.

I think the point was - to learn a lesson of corporate treatment. It's not just oracle, it is a phenomenon of big corporations, where one can't really rely on some clarity and human relation once the storm begins. It is stable, reliable, warm place with opportunities and safety - right until it's not. And this is also part of life, part of game we live in. Any experience is precious to go further with clearer eyes. I hope we all will end up in a better place thanks to this experience as well. Europe storm is coming I think after my vacation, in October))

Performance review are pointless, promotions often don't involve a payrise, just more work.

It's been confirmed that performance ratings weren't a factor in layoff selection so why bother. Every year without a payrise better than inflation makes you worse off financially. Meanwhile, thank you for your service and our people are the most important thing to our success.

To everyone out there,
Do not waste your life away on being loyal to a company (esp big corp). You are just a figure on paper and you are replaceable.
Leave with dignity and focus on the next big thing. Performance reviews and winning internal recognitions multiple times does not mean much these days. It’s just a procedure and it does not dictate how you are as an individual.
HR and management - they are not your best friends. Remember that.
All the best to everyone who has been laid off. Life is much more to just modern corp slavery!
