Thread regarding Bank of New York Mellon Corp. layoffs

These surveys are a total joke and a trap

The survey questions are not actionable and there is no accountability for the results or corrective action. There used to be a third party that would tabulate and report the results. Now this reporting is managed internally and there is no privacy or confidentiality so respondents are not truly encouraged to give more detailed or honest feedback. Middle managers fear the surveys and senior management is not managed or measured by the results. Another shameful action by HR and the EC to control the Peakon survey process.

@h6+1k50kxhns tells it like it is.

What I said “ My advice is if you actually think your immediate manager is doing decent then say that and be clear if your issue with the company or senior management, executive leadership.”

What you insinuated “ So I should worry more about your job than mine? I should just bend over and take being force ranked into less than Meets, put on a false PIP with no eligibility if severance or posting out to another role for a full year, no merit increase, and not eligible for rehire to help you save your job?”

What I said “ Just be clear when you write out your comments so that the actual problem areas are addressed. If it’s your direct manager then say that, but if it’s not your direct manager then say that.”

What you insinuated “ So again, because you go to bat for your employees, they should keep negative comments on the company in general to themselves.”

See the difference??

I’m not sure what you think I took out of context. From your post:

“If you actually like your direct manager then you are only hurting them with the negative comments in the survey….
I am held responsible for any negative comments even if the employee says that the issue is with the company and not me/our team. “

So again, because you go to bat for your employees, they should keep negative comments on the company in general to themselves. People can be happy with their manager but dissatisfied with the company. They do not go hand in hand.

If you feel you are being treated unfairly by the company due to your team’s view on the company, then you also should take that up the chain.

Be very careful about your comments as they are 100% NOT anonymous.

Just wow!

You went off on a tangent and created a false narrative. I didn’t say any of those things.

But you will get the manager you deserve who will force rank you and put you on a false PIP when you approach things with a bias and paint with a broad brush like you did with my post.

Go back and reread my post. I put my neck out there for my team. Going as far as to get this team more than a 15 percent pay increase for doing the same job, no added responsibilities. That came at a cost to me because I got in an entanglement with our HR business partner to make it happen when I wouldn’t back down from my business justification.

I encourage my team to take the survey and speak honestly. I only ask that they be sure to specify where, who, what is causing their grievance. Is it really an issue with your direct manager or is it an issue with the way the company communicates and rolls out changes.

Is it the forced RTO? Then clarify that being an unnecessary burden placed upon employees by at the CEO level. Managers, like myself, encourage flexibility and approve as many exception days, sick days and caregiver days as there are available. So say that and state that you want the company to put number of in office days back under individual manager discretion.

Is it forced rankings? Is your manager actually force ranking anyone on the team? Or is everyone, including yourself, always given at least a meets rating with positive comments on the review? Instead , if you are actually impacted because other teams or business partners are letting good employees go, then say that and call out the actual team where you see it happening and how it affects you personally.

Just be clear when you write out your comments so that the actual problem areas are addressed. If it’s your direct manager then say that, but if it’s not your direct manager then say that.

You act like you are winning by putting lots of negative comments without actually specifying who or what is creating the situation. Offer suggestions.

Or you may just find yourself under a new manager who will actually be harsh, force rank and put team members on the PIP and go because you are ruled by your hatred for this toxic company and your past experience with other managers.

We've been getting peaking surveys since before covid but there's no positive changes. Whats the point in them anymore.
Management only reply coming upto mid year and year end. Usually the reply says speak to me on person about this. What a joke

Sorry, I will continue to speak my mind on the surveys. I rate the company low but have no issues with my manager so I rate those questions accordingly as well. If you, as a manager, feel you are being rated unfairly by your team expressing their dissatisfaction of the company then you should speak up for yourself as well. I truly am sorry the way the company is treating all their employees. I was a manager here for over 15 years and am now an individual contributor so I can see both sides. These unethical policies affect all of us st every level. It’s time we all stop pretending this isn’t happening, filing false reports or none at all, just to keep the peace.

Letting you in on a little secret. If you actually like your direct manager then you are only hurting them with the negative comments in the survey.

I’m a manager and, generally speaking, my team is happy with my management style. I manage with a light hand and truly care about my team to the point of going to battle with management above me and suffering negative consequences because of it. But I’ll keep doing it to protect my team even though they are oblivious to it. I didn’t want to be a manager, I was forced into the role.

As manager, I have to review each and comment and I do respond. I even walk through every comment with my team during our staff meeting.

I am held responsible for any negative comments even if the employee says that the issue is with the company and not me/our team. The comments go against my performance review. Senior management doesn’t care. My advice is if you actually think your immediate manager is doing decent then say that and be clear if your issue with the company or senior management, executive leadership. Otherwise you may just find your immediate manager replaced with someone who is so much worse, who doesn’t fight for the team and pushes lots of extra work on you while simultaneously taking steps to outsource and eliminate your positions.

I stopped responding to protect my mental health. I found that participating in the survey process only brought frustration and anxiety. There seems to be a new way of thinking with these surveys…hold managers accountable table for better results yet management also knows that things are not actionable. The latest thinking is that higher levels of participation is a metric so the more surveys completed (regardless of scores), the higher he success.

I was just about to make a post encouraging (maybe begging) everyone on here to please rate honestly and put in all the comments. If I’m going down, I’m going down swinging. This whole “Our votes don’t matter so I won’t vote” attitude is why we end up in $hit storms. They are giving severance to a select few and that depends on your management line and how ethical they are. I know my management line isn’t paying anyone to leave so I’ll eventually be on the unemployment line. I’m on a sinking ship and I will speak my mind the whole way down. If not for me, then for the others who refuse to stand up and speak up, or are scared to speak up. Perhaps, maybe just a little tiny chance, if there is the majority of responders who reply honestly, maybe just maybe there is a chance for change. It’s really our only hope and option at this point. May the odds ever be in your favor.

I actually created an outlook rule to move all peakon emails into the trash folder on arrival. So I haven't seen them since hmm... 2021 or so.. lol

I agree but I have no respect for people that fill these out giving nines or tens when they don’t feel that the company is actually deserving of a nine and 10, but they’re doing it because they’re scared, weak minded, weak people…

Probably the same people that were posting their vaccines status and pictures of themselves and masks on social media

if you’re worried they’re gonna penalize you then don’t fill the stupid thing out… But don’t shoot yourself in the foot by validating their terrible decisions and treatment of employees

Who even fills these out? It’s a waste of time. If I can’t get better than meets neither can this company on any of my reviews about them. And that’s if they’re lucky.
