I heard a rumor today that a 5 DAY return to the office announcement is coming! Has anyone heard anything about this?

@85g you realize there are groups that were hybrid or remote prior to Covid right? Lol
@82v why does it have to be? Do you think there is going to be a communication from the CEO announcing RTO and it only apply to certain departments? If that’s the case there would be mass exodus once it’s brought to light.
@829 what department? Has to be specific to each one.
Was informed during an interview last week that it is 5 days in office, period, and it was admitted that this was a more strict policy than currently or previously existed. Sorry guys.
Still posting remote and hybrid jobs…
@7rb close with tech; working side by side with tech.
@7qk what department ? Could be specific to that.
@7qk I am also actively interviewing and was told no updates . 3 days in office still expectation
I’m in the thick of the interview process with them. Initially, the recruiter told me it was hybrid 4 days. However as I’ve moved through the interview, i am told it is now 5 days with occasional remote. I would really like to know what others who are actively interviewing with them now like me are told.
In the dead of Winter? Nice. Well, if they’re going this route they are ensuring no ONE will stay logged in until 10 pm any longer. The 2% pay increases & low wages were acceptable solely BECAUSE of the flexibility and wfh. Now? It’s not worth it. There are plenty of jobs that are remote out there in companies that won’t succumb to the current govt. I know groups that were hybrid long before Covid. Expecting even 4 days in office is just cruel and controlling. The economy is trash, cost of living is still ridiculous, rent has gone up 30% in PA & in OH - now you’re going to add gas, clothing purchases, & for some families they’re going to have to purchase a 2nd vehicle!!! There are people that adjusted their entire lives just to get by. Prices are just getting worse. And what about the teams spread across this country? They’re in offices with no room for the entire team. It will be a mass exodus.
@7nc I heard everything from that date to other dates in January to it’s not confirmed at all or guaranteed to happen.
It is happening. January 20th
@7gp Agreed. Why would they continue to post remote jobs and why would they suddenly want ALL employees across the board back in office full time when some people have been remote their entire career. It’s hard to believe this would be for all departments.
@7gb none of this makes sense just today they posted remote and hybrid jobs. I find it really hard to believe they would turn back the clock 20 years and be fully in office with no flexibility.
@7f4 Unfortunately, I’ve heard the announcement is still coming but just been delayed to make sure everything is communicated correctly. Email should be sent in November.
Any updates ? Seems to have went quiet. Maybe indicator of pushback…
PNC is just following suit of the current climate administration. Federal government workers required RTO full time sets precedents to everyone not just in banking industries. This is uncharted times. It’s already happening to other sectors.
It’s not just a RTO it’s a complete change from PNC philosophy the past 20 years. I was remote in 2009 when I started at pnc and have friends still who are remote and hybrid since then. A full elimination of that doesn’t make sense at all.
@721 There is no reversing to this when RTO is happening across banks and other industries. Other banks have done it and PNC will follow suit
Voice your opinion to your managers. We have a better chance of reversing this if it gets overwhelming pushback before it’s actually communicated out.
@70y what department are you in? are you fully remote? curious to know if the RTO is for certain LOB
@6gz I also care for my ill mother and work remote. We were told by our managers not to worry at this time about RTO. Also PNC offers paid Family leave time. It’s not hard to apply and this is my third year doing this. It’s pays depending how much care you need to provide. The doctor fills out the form and approved paid time is dependent on what the doctor puts on the form. I only get 2 days per month. But again that’s how the doctor filled out the form. She doesn’t have a lot of appointments right now. Hope this helps.
What about WFH employees?
Just wondering. If the senior level managers are already returning 5 days a week RTO, why would the rest of us be exempted? People from Pittsburgh are already complaining of parking issues lately due to other employers like highmark already requiring full 5 days return. I don’t know how this is going to happen logistically.
@6x5 no indication of anything ? They are advertising remote and hybrid jobs still.
@6wy My manager told us this morning that it will probably be mid November before we get the memo with the details.
@6sv any update ?
Everyone needs to push back! One of my coworkers contacted HR and they said to contact the manager of your line of business with concerns. I will be emailing mine and advise everyone here to do the same. I can't even fathom being back in the office and stuck in a windowless cubicle 5 days a week. Getting up an hour and half earlier, fighting traffic....the list goes on and on. As everyone says, I am much more productive working from home, and just a way happier person in general. We all need to fight this.
Anyone in the know willing to leak what kind of kickbacks D-mbchak is getting for forcing us into town? Can only hope the corruption gets exposed and that Dbag gets his. I don’t believe he is actually stupid enough to believe we are more productive in the office. So what’s the reasoning?
@6kh what does that mean tho? I am being hired right now for a hybrid role. On the posting it’s clearly hybrid and pnc has offered that for years even pre Covid
The in person employees definitely will be mandated 5 RTO, however I've heard mixed rumors for remote employees. A friend of mine from IT department mainly works 1 day a week in the office. I don’t know how they’re going to accommodate his office space if he’s to report 5 days plus his work is during odd hours like super late evenings because he works with international IT contractors.
We all know this is going to cost employees much more money out of their paychecks for the commute, and the prices are much higher than they were before Covid. I surely hope that they will consider increasing everyone’s pay to ensure people can get to work. The other concern that I have, which is probably the highest concern I have…. Is safety downtown. Downtown has gotten so bad that you can’t even walk a block without being approached by someone for money or seeing someone passed out laying on the ground from an overdose. I feel like I work on skid row. I don’t see the police in the buildings as often like they said they were going to be, but I’m not worried about crime inside the building. I’m worried about crime outside the building. There have been shootings and stabbing right outside of where I work. A couple months ago it was reported a man with a machete was downtown trying to rob people. What would happen if I had to walk across the street for a meeting and I am as--ulted or robbed? I’m scared. And I can’t have any protection on me because that is not permitted, at any workplace really. Honestly, that makes sense though that it’s not permitted in any workplace. No we-pon should be allowed, but I don’t even think I can even carry mace. How do we protect ourselves when downtown? There aren’t enough police.
I’m honestly worried sick over this because I have a family member that is ill that I’ve been caring for. There is no way I can get her to the doctor safe when I’m working downtown. I will also have to use numerous vacation and sick time every time she goes to the doctor and sometimes it can be up to three times a month.
In my opinion, I truly believe that working in the office three days a week should be acceptable. This gives some flexibility for doctors appointment appointments that are closer to home rather than in the office. What’s going to happen is more people are going to start to take a leave of absence to care for family and loved ones and will be completely out of the office since they can’t work from home. My family‘s doctors are closer to where I live and if I have to go into the office, it makes no sense to work that day because by the time you take your family member to the doctors office and you get them home and comfortable and then you have to drive downtown more than half the day is gone. In my case, I’m going to have to take a day off every time me or my family member has to attend to a doctors appointment which has become more frequently recently. I have no other choice other than to find a different job. I hate to leave the bank, but if this is what it’s going to be, then I have to do what I have to do to care for my family. My family will always come first.
This is the path that banks like Chase have taken and you can search the internet to see stories of how badly that has worked out for the employees. This isn't something new. The same things were said , "but I've always been remote" or "been remote since covid" etc. It made no difference there. PNC is just following the plan of other banks for some reason.
@3hh so the cafeteria staff knows about this before the employees do?
If this change goes through and they are no longer offering the work life balance I anticipate a huge amount of resignations. The world is a different place now since Covid and honestly Covid has not gone away. Now we have to worry about RSV. People with other medical conditions are more susceptible to getting very ill. The workspace and technology tower is just too close to each other. A plastic partition, unfortunately doesn’t prevent germs from going over it. Also having everyone in the office in this building is extremely difficult to concentrate when people are on conference calls at their desk. You can’t even hear yourself talking. I was initially excited about the open work area but being that I go in the office three times a week. It is extremely difficult to concentrate and I find myself having to go into conference rooms to get my work done. Multiple people around you on different conference calls is just too much. It’s difficult to get my work done.
@3t9 I don’t know if you’d lose your job, but since we are all considered at will employees, they can simply tell us they no longer need us. Sad but true.
@4x0 unfortunately that doesn’t matter. They have a bunch of space over at Allegheny center. If they want you in an office, they will find a place to put you believe me. I hope this isn’t true, but from the sounds of it and the fact that the senior managers have already been asked to come in five days a week, I can’t see them having senior managers come in, but the staff reporting to them does not come in five days a week. That just wouldn’t make sense.
@67a I’ve been required to do three days a week for two years now. You mean some of you weren’t required to come in at all?
