I finish my daily work in about 45 minutes. I timed it today.
That includes turning off the alarm clock, crawling out of bed, getting dressed, taking the dog out, turning on the coffee maker, and starting my laptops (one for work and the other for everything else), logging in and doing my "work", and even typing this little post here.
My job is to essentially do nothing. I check some things, which is a task that I've reduced to just a few button clicks. My manager knows I'm here, and even schedules one on ones, which are usually cancelled if he even shows up at all. I attend a daily meeting where a bunch of people I don't know give their daily status, and it seems like sometimes they too are struggling to find something to report that they did. I still get mid year and annual reviews, generally scoring "meets". I get invited to some meetings, and am totally ignored for others. I've looked for other things to do, but am told to "stay in your lane" and "stay within your role". So I just do nothing.
I was going to retire LAST YEAR, but thought to myself "Hey, this is free money. I can't just walk away from a 6 figure job. Let's see how long this continues."
Well, this is continuing for a long time. Evidently the stagecoach is just coasting down hill or something.
I'm just barely old enough to retire. I can keep this up for two more decades. Free money. Why not?
