No, you don't.
You know it's true. I know it's true. But the reality is O has the lawyers that we could never afford, so they win again.
Take the severance and be glad you don't have to deal with them anymore.
This round of layoffs definitely was ageist. Almost everyone I know that was laid off was over the age of 45. But of course they also fired some new employees as well who were training to cover themselves in the event of a layoff. So I don’t think a lawsuit would work, unless you have solid proof.
It is different in other countries. Among the many advantages of not living in the USA!
Under duress to sign? Check with an attorney. You may be able to add "without agreement" while signing.
@OP Oracle was very careful to frame this as a “reduction in force” and “position elimination.” From what I’ve heard, HR has been preparing this for a long time. The real kicker? The official termination docs only hit you on your last day of employment. That leaves maybe 8 hours to get an attorney’s review before you either sign and forfeit your rights—or don’t sign and prepare for a long, ugly fight with a company that’s massively lawyered up. Not exactly a winning hand.
