Thread regarding Oracle Corp. layoffs

"Don't take it personally"

I heard one coworker tell that to another who'd just been laid off yesterday. He was actually trying to comfort him. The guy we lost has 12 years experience, the one who said not to take it personally has been here for a year and to say he still can barely do anything without somebody holding his hand would be an understatement. And now hearing this, I'm even more convinced he's nothing more than an id--t. And he's still here. Fu-k this place.

it used to be that a certain % of under performers were let go annually at some better tech companies. In this round at O it seems that is no longer the case, high performers were let go while other mostly ineffective employees were kept. It may be solely about compensation, but some lower paid high performers were let go. Favoritism seems to have played a part but no concrete proof of that..

@a3 I worked for another big silicon valley player that laid off annually. I recall several of those rounds of layoffs hitting me personally when people I cared about or worked with got hit. People that have a heart take others pain personally. People that don't are only happy they are not impacted and no one else matters. Corporate jobs are brutal. I really wish they weren't and I wish more people with a conscience and compassion made it as CEO's and executive leaders.

Multiple people that I have worked daily with for years were impacted. It is all I can think about. The impact on them. The impact on me now and what is coming. My teenager says to find something positive, stop thinking about it. Child please! I have known them longer than you. I need the time to process this.

And I’m not the one laid off…

Just youthful inexperience.
