It would at least lessen the chances of the rest of us ending up on the chopping block. I’m still hoping to keep this job. Not because I care about it, or about the company, but because the options out there are practically nonexistent. They’ll keep cutting and offshoring, and things aren’t going to get better. At this point, I’ll take even the smallest improvement in my odds of not becoming jobless.

@ar what a joke prediction, HR literally just created this package. You are falsely predicting. They are rolling out a new lesser package now or any time in the near future, this is the direction for the forthcoming future and its quite generous for those with tenure. For those hoping people take it, I get it, but just because someone is 55+ doesn't mean they should be forced to take something for your sake. They may have just started at SF. Maybe they need to work to 65 to be secure in retirement. Dont be so ready to push others off the cliff to save yourself, you'll be in that age group some day if you're lucky and earn it. You dont work all those years and suffer through transitions at multiple companies so a sniveling kid can take the easy path. Life is full of change, always be ready to reinvent yourself. These software engineers think they have a lifelong career as software engineers, some will but most will need to re-tool. Figure it out like the generations before you have.
If you’re not going to take responsibility for your choice to stay, at least change your toxic attitude.
@OP same! I'll never find another job that pays me this well. I'm stuck with 12 years to go to retirement just trying to hang on.
@ar like the rest of the crystal ball id--ts on here, just another prediction not based in any fact
@ca are people regularly collapsing and being taken out on a stretcher to an ambulance again yet?
Being in the office today felt like 2018 all over again, except with a lot more armed guards
Su-k a di-k. You probably have no education anyway.
I think it's for show only. No one will actually get the offer.
I’d recommend taking it. HR has plans to update the severance package and significantly reduce the number of weeks paid. You pass on this and are hit in the next round of layoffs you will get four to eight weeks. That’s it.
So you don’t like your job or the company but don’t want to get laid off. You were probably a DEI hire and part of the group of id--ts that were hire in the last 5-7 years anyways
