HOW WIDESPREAD ARE THE LAYOFFS FROM TODAY?

@1hg you lose your unused PTO when you leave. It's in the Handbook. It happened to me when I left for a better job/company.
@1j0 we have outside counsel for this but it’s cheaper to hire onsite to keep it organized for outside counsel.
@ha you sign agreeing when you join the union and you can not
@1ym Only the Reading Call Center is union. The Fairmont and Akron Call Centers are non-union. Once upon a time there was a Toledo Call Center but FE closed it by offering the employees a buyout or other positions. Good luck Reading Call Center.
Are the call center workers union or non union?
@1xx yes it's in the employee handbook. You will find it if you search for it.
@1xn do you personally know this? just trying to get prepared
@1v6 all the unions have no strike clauses. They can’t strike while their agreement is active. They can strike when it’s time for negotiations again. For local 777, I believe that won’t be until Nov 2027. It will be too late by then
@1hg just a heads up, FE doesn't pay out PTO if (when) you leave
@1gv No strike clause for the call center? Who the he-l negotiated that?!
I can honestly tell you that I know it's not good to wish harm on someone. But I really hope Brian gets an-l cancer or something. I never liked the guy from the moment I saw him. I guess my first impression on him was correct.
@1hm that posting looks tied to transmission, probably to support the joint venture FE entered into with Dominion and AEP. The company would be engaging outside counsel and investment banks for any big M&A activity, not hiring an in house attorney.
They put out a job posting for a lawyer with “M&A or corporate governance” experience
@1hh Was it a lump sum or payed over time. Were payments reduced or stopped if you found new employment?
@1hg they did NOT pay out PTO in the March layoffs. They gave 1 week per year of service.
Does anyone know especially with this latest round of layoffs what the severance is and if any unused PTO is paid out.
I have a ton of PTO I was saving for end of the year and to carry over, should I just be using it in case I lose it?
@1fn There is a NO STRIKE clause in the CC contract in Reading.
100%, no one knows what's going on except Brian and his pals- every 'rumor' we've heard so far has been accurate.
Anyone in local 777 talked to a union rep? What is the union saying?
@1dj Makes sense. Macy’s (where Avila came from) has a 2 tiered call center. Low level issues in India and advanced calls in America. Both are outsourced though not actually Macy’s employees.
We will likely see another round of layoffs after the next earnings call. It will happen on a pay week. Surmising based on patterns, not a fact. They are eliminating middle management, supervisors and managers days are numbered. The call centers will be phased out, reading will be first— not a good idea to strike right now and prob not a good idea to unionize the other centers. They will just ramp up hiring at the outsourcing company and replace you. The outsource company is fully remote and can hire from all over the US. Tierny is all about profit over people, the fact he brought people back in office just to humiliate them in front of their peers to fire them. Disgusting.
@hq yes severance was offered
@hd a strike for reading care center isn’t a good idea, they are trying to phase that center out. If they strike they will simply replace you much sooner than they planned to. They will increase the staffing at the outsourced co. And Akron and Fairmont care centers will take over the higher skilled calls.
The directory head count is dropping everyday.
@139 what is surprising is that there was no announcement or warning this round, like there was with the march layoffs.
Still no corporate wide communication regarding the cuts.
No idea if more or coming.
At least in march they let us all know when it was done so those that remained had some peace of mind. Now we’re totally in the dark wondering if and when.
Yet the company keeps assuring us transparency and better communication.
@131 tierney did the same thing at AEP. He has a short term vision, probably stuffs his pockets; and lets the issues bubble up til some poor replacement has to deal with it. Corporations in us are such short term entities any more.
@131 I will say thing. Anyone in the company who is not withing a stones throw of retirement, better be looking for a new job/company to work for. If you're happy here, you need your head examined. On top of that....call center, YOU NEED TO UNIONIZE.
@131 does that surprise anyone after March Layoffs.
How anyone can see being told that they are going to outsource and add 350 agents is a positive is beyond me. There is only 1 reason for it-- to replace Call Center personnel with a cheaper substitute. If it were because "we need the help" why not just hire and use the Workforce Development system already in place? Instead of negotiating and contracting another company, it would be faster to just start training new people. It's being done to save $$$. All of us in the Call Center will be laid off, in the meantime the general atmosphere has agents leaving on their own. It's become he-l to work here. So demoralizing and disheartening, and it's by design. They don't have to pay you unemployment if you go find a new job. The new CEO is a viper, he is going to dismantle this company and run off laughing his way to the bank.
@za Source?
@tg 10k is the magic number
FE has been steadily consolidating and trimming costs for years as they transition to their "State Model". They're not spending the money that a company needs to spend if they are considering the future. Their actions over the past 5 years tell me that they are prepping for a breakup, sale, or merger. The question is, how many employees will be laid off to make the books look good, and will the unions be broken by a sale or merger?
@nh Well, look at the Customer organization. One Director who has been with the company for 20 years, resigned and found a new job. Another Director just retired having close to 19 years with the company. Our leaders know something we dont.
Got rid of chuck for his crooked cousin buck....polish of your resumes we are almost fkd
@gf it starts in October. Calls will go through another company in Dublin Ireland
@h6 He's technically a contractor, so that's probably why it wasn't announced. He'll be gone after the merger
@hb RE: At All. Whoever commented that they sent the email from Steven Avilla to the Akron Beacon Journal reporter. Did he respond back? Any update on that?
He said he would talk to his editor. I obviously couldn't let him use my name in an article as it's against company policy and I would definitely be fired if I did. I don't know if there's much of a story there since I wasn't able to give very much info to him. I don't work in the care center, it was just shared with me. It might be worth writing about if he can get multiple people to talk. He'd have to verify sources, but hopefully it could be under the condition on anonymity. I'd recommend those in the call center to reach out to him and have a chat with him over the phone if you'd like to get the story out there. This is going to be a lot of money taken out of Akron's economy. 153 people working at the call center making $50k a year is $7.6 million that just disappears.
Was a severance offered to the layoff employees?
@h7 From what I understand they are taking work away from you at the Reading Call Center. I believe you can strike. Talk to your union delegate. Also reach out to Akron and Fairmont and help them organize.
@h6 go to org chart - listed as contractor. Sitting in A1 currentlym
