by manager, generic email, 1x1 with HR?

@an WC? West Coast? Seems extreme ...
1:1 that turns into a 3 way when a an HR partner unexpectedly pops in. If you see that, I'd disconnect and run to the WC.
Oh, and look for a vague meeting topic like "Bob question" or "Merit revisit"
I was laid off in October of last year. Manager on East Coast sent out a meeting request for 8 AM Pacific time the following morning. Manager and manager's manager were in attendance and read the script, laying off the entire team.
The team members on the west coast spent a sleepless night, but had to call in to an early morning layoff meeting.
As others have hinted at, I've had to perform two of them myself
When I did it here's how it went down. Keep in mind that things might have changed since then. I don't when to let them figure out who I am.
HR dictates the day and the script but not necessarily the time. We have to follow the script precisely.
There's no rule that the one-on-one is last minute. There's nothing stopping a manager from setting up a one-on-one meeting days in advance. But I can see about wanting to wait until maybe the day before.
In my case I knew about the layoffs at least one month before it happened. And again that date is locked in.
HR did not make the call with me. In fact they made it very clear that it's the manager's job.
If the manager is out of town then it might be the person above the manager.
Maybe HR might help with a manager that doesn't feel comfortable doing it I don't know. I was under the impression I have to just do it and su-k it up and get it over with.
1 on 1 with the manager on the suggested date of the HR. Script is given by the HR.
Meeting will look like 1:1 with your manager but HR will also join.
From what I've heard , last second teams meeting scheduled. Usually manager but I knew someone who's manager was traveling and they got a generic HR person calling them on teams.
