Thread regarding Oracle Corp. layoffs

Can someone explain WARN act timing?

The Mercury News reported two WARN act filings by Oracle - disclosed on August 13, filed again on August 14.

"Oracle America is cutting 101 positions in Santa Clara, the company revealed in a WARN notice filed with the EDD on Aug. 14. These staffing reductions come on the heels of a disclosure by Oracle on Aug. 13 that it had decided to cut 188 jobs, consisting of a loss of 143 positions in Redwood City and 45 in Pleasanton."

Does this mean that the disclosure layoffs (Aug 13) already happened but the filed (Aug 14) layoffs have up to 60 days to execute?

@ar not sure what they are doing in warn situation. Anything beyond the 60 days is up to oracle and dependent on the employee

@ah thanks for the info, that clears it up. So the typical baseline severance in a WARN situation is 60 days + whatever seniority bonuses they might have? Elsewhere someone posted that it was 4 weeks + 1 week per year of service, but I wasn't sure if that was accurate.

@ad if the companies do not give the required 60 day notice then they are required to pay the employees for those 60 days. Oracle decided they were fine with that

Usually some warn notices are filed after layoffs.
