Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

Being marked Critical

If my teammate and myself are marked Critical, what does that mean for us? We both work in non-core city locations (hybrid). We're also close to retirement plans, and are hoping for a layoff with severance at some point in the near future. Thanks.

Critical status is reserved only for Whites. All b l a c k s are marked in the system as either Expendable, Nasty, Disgusting or Filthy.

I was also marked critical and left WF for a role that paid me $45k more a year. I had only been with Wells for five years, so nothing really to stay for. I gave two weeks notice and they asked me to stay…told me they would promote me next cycle…yeah for sure lol.

If you're marked critical it means you have some skill or knowledge Wells values.

If Wells values that skill, so will some other company. Probably for more money.

In Workday, the “Critical Roles” or “Critical Talent” information typically lives in the Talent & Performance module (sometimes under Talent Review or Succession Planning). Whether you, as a manager, can enter that information depends on how your HR or talent management team configured Workday:
• If managers are enabled to edit:
You’d see it in the My Team or Talent worklets, often in a “Talent Card,” “Talent Review,” or “Succession” task.
You’d be prompted to flag an employee as “Critical” during an annual talent review cycle or when updating their profile.
• If managers are not enabled to edit:
HR business partners or a centralized Talent/HRIS team usually enters or updates the critical employee designation, often after talent calibration sessions.
• Most common setup:
Managers discuss and recommend critical employees during calibration meetings, but the HR/Talent Partner actually records it in Workday to keep it consistent with corporate definitions. If you don’t recall seeing it in Workday, it’s likely your company restricted the data entry to HR/Talent Partners rather than letting managers do it directly.

It means you have an exception but when it’s removed it’s open season.

It means you are now a priority to train your replacement in India...lol

If you’re considered critical, you are probably earmarked for remote status regardless of location. It’s a good thing.

Means they don't want you to be laid off due to WLS. At least, not yet

How do you know got marked this?

Probably means they need to get a succession plan (including training others) on paper in order for you/your position - in case you leave or need to be replaced in a hub location. And yes, possibly puts you on the layoff later list until they can figure out how to replace you.

You have to work a little harder at "quietly quitting". Don't remain "nice" to people. Try to keep your manager no matter how "nice" they are out of the loop until the last minute.

It means, "we'll lay you off, a little later". Give it a couple years, they'll get around to you.

The firm wants flexibility of laying you off entirely at their convenience. Until then, you are a ”hostage” of sorts. Unless you decide to leave before then.

I wonder the same because I think they did that to me, although not near retirement. Based on what knowledge I have from prior bosses and friends in management I'm way past my original "due date" (and seeing many colleagues in my same group disappear). Only thing I can think is that no one wants to do my work it's so miserable so they say I'm critical 😂... Only thing critical is my mental health being in critical condition
