Onsite Scrum Masters (contractors) laid off in MPS (Elavon)

Heard that around 8-10 onsite Scrum Masters (contractors) in MPS (Elavon) were laid of this week (last day Aug-29th). What could be primary reasons?

Just like any job, there are good ones and not so good ones. The ones who only attend meetings without adding value, not so good. The ones working across platforms, keeping away the noise that distracts from engineers, resolving risks, managing dependencies, and general work management, are essential.

I enjoy the scrum master meetings that launch deeply into the weeds and waste the time of everyone on the team.

Now they’ve added agile leads—just another layer of middle management that adds no value. They stroll in late, leave early, and spend their time opening tabs to look busy while contributing nothing. Yet another layer of uselessness.

Scrum masters are high pay, zero responsibilities, and zero deliverables. Project late, blame programmers. Doesn't meet requirements, blame the product owners. Of course they come in late, leave early and add absolutely nothing to any conversation. Yes, they are nice people but completely useless at the bank.

Scrum masters are one of the most useless roles. Theres nothing agile about creating processes and meetings that others have to own and they just sit back, collect a check and nowhere to be found when work has to be done.

We are not agile, we never were. Scrum master's full-time job is to have meetings. Most of the meetings are worthless and a time-su-k. I like many of the scrum masters personally, but i also know they dont do anything except waste our time.

I agree with the comments that the bank is not agile but they are agile theater. The scrum masters in my area are useless official meeting attendees and time wasters. We are waterfall with an agile overlay. Most sc-m masters were useless fat prior to agile and remain useless. Lots of failed managers, pmo, or programmers who su-ked.

@f8 who hurt you?

Agile works incredible at companies that use it correctly. We're a bank, not a technology company. We pretend to be agile, but we're not. Scrum masters are necessary in a true agile structure. We are not that.

Please remember that these are people. People on this site have gotten so bitter and mean.

@f8 you know, you could get agile certified too, right? Then you could feel like you fit in, instead of tearing everything down cause it doesn’t make sense to your uneducated world view. Talk to your manager ❤️

LMFAO @ "Scrum Masters". Have you ever heard of an "Agile" implementation at any company that worked as promised? Well? I think no. The whole Agile concept is a utopian dream that DOES NOT WORK. Hence, Scrum Masters are worthless. So there's that. Secondly, eliminating a contractor is NOT a layoff. This is TheLayoff.com. Pay attention and stay on topic or remain silent.

If they're contractors...those aren't layoffs

Scrum masters are always the first to go. If we actually were truly agile they would be the first to be eliminating bottle necks, but instead we do Frankenstein-agile and think “oh, we don’t need these people” while asking the product owners to take on that role instead. All you agile haters, hate on the bank not the methodology.

Scrum masters are some of the most unpleasant personalities who only created bottle necks. Sorry to se people lose jobs but … I saw one lose her mind once.

They realized they don’t do anything. Now one scrum master will have multiple teams to work with. Kind of makes me smile.
