Mark is a guy with a nursery. Y'know, shrubs and flowers and such.
But, he never waters them regularly, never fertilizes them and so on. But, he keeps acquiring more and more and every time someone comes in, they pay a fee and if they return, they pay more than they did the last time. Anyone he employs to take care of the plants or help people understand how to take care of them, he lays off and has people call for help overseas where they're chronically afraid to tell people to take actions that carry any kind of risk so they just defer, defer, delay, and ultimately force the customer to attempt things on their own with varying results.
Now that the owners of the nursery have had enough and have gotten rid of Mark like the invasive resource su-king weed infestation he is, everything is in ruins and nobody wants to buy any of it. Certainly not for a good price. Certainly not for fair market value.
The only option will be a fire sale. DEEP discounts for the owners to just get rid of everything and move on leaving the bruised and battered employees looking around for another patch of dirt to work.

Now it's a guessing game of what's core and none-core.
And due to Mark under investing some of these businesses units are probably not even worth a sniff by external companies.
I suspect that if they can't be sold they will be shipped off to low cost centers of excellence to maintain.
